Great Books

The first and the second are amazing. So not like every other book out there. The story line is different from all the others too.
Performance is outstanding. She did a excellent job!
I can't wait to listen to the third book now.

I loved it!

I loved it as much if not more than I loved Defy. Sara B. Larson can keep you captivated for hours with her story and writing skills. I was very impressed with the character growth and I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in this series!

Great! But... writing poor in spots

I have only listened to this book and the first book. I am liking it so far. It has strong and complex characters, twisting plot lines, and so much more. I really do like this series.

That being said, I have to admit that I get so annoyed with the writing of the thought process of the main character. She is constantly reminding herself that she is the King's guard, and she protects. This is great, but the author uses the same words, the same reasoning every time Alexa brings thinks about her job. Alexa seems to have to original thoughts when it comes to the guard, no further reasoning for what she does other than "it's what her purpose is." And she thinks about this A LOT. I have no problem with the character having this constantly on her mind, but sometimes it feels like every 5 pages or so I'm listening to the same internal monologue, literally copied and pasted. It drives me nuts. People don't think like that, and it completely takes me out of the world and magic the author has done such a great job to create thus far.

Anyways, I thought I would add another opinion. It is a really great book, but some flaws in the expression of the characters. (In my opinion.)

Love the Defy series but Ignite is lacking a bit

I really enjoyed Defy but the beginning of ignite has Alexa’s character all wrong, she goes from fighting with strength and no fear to jealousy and moped around until the plot gets together. At about page 50 she gets her act together but it’s really annoying until then.

DRAMA

This woman's voiceis so overly dramatic I literally scream in my car trying to get rid of it. This woman has forced me to buy a older model of Kendall that has the text to speech feature on it. I would rather have a robot read to me than her. The writing is equally as exhausting wants she tries to make a point she just doesn't move on. I was tired, I was tired, I was exhausted, tired. OK OK OK – I get it. It is a shame though, because the story is actually pretty good. I'm just hating the way it was written and the storyteller. Oh well I guess this one series I will not finish.

Good sequel to the first

The story is an entertaining read but highly predictable. Everything that you would like to happen to the characters in the first book does, but it is so easy to see which way the book goes at every point that it lost a lot of it's appeal part way through. Overall good concept but could use more structured writing.

Okay but hard to finish

While the genre of this book is right up my alley (romance, independent kick butt heroine, action, fantasy), this book was not as wonderful as it could have been. I enjoyed the first book of the serious and liked this one but had difficulty finishing it, which is very rare for me. The heroine was making lots of the same mistakes as in the first book which is extremely frustrating. Also the story was extremely predictable. I do plan on finishing the series eventually so I hope the third book has better plot development and character growth.

I will note that I am in my early twenties so maybe this book would be more enjoyable to a teenager (the book’s intended audience). It’s romantic scenes are slightly more mature than what I’d expect a teenager to read but the characters’ maturity (mentally) and lack of growth are on par with that of a pre teen.

Dragging upon the winds of meh-

When the plot relies so heavily on a character’s emotional dishonesty, it gets boring fast...

It’s as if, this whole book is some attempt to justify the general state of female confusion, and subtlety, while empowering her at the same time with absolute physical mastery. If the author lives in this delusion, and contradiction of self loathing vs self aggrandizement, I hope this narrative helps her “get it out of her system”!
