Top 100 Sports Romance Bestseller

Confession time:

My name is Noel Sandlund and I play professional hockey-defense to be exact.

I lead a pretty good life. I'm not hurting for money and the ladies seem to like me.

And now things have gotten even better - I think I may have fallen in love.

See, while I was in Sweden playing in the world hockey championships this off-season, I met Maisie Troy.

And, man, she's it for me.

Confession time:

I'm Maisie Troy.

This summer I met a man who's everything I've ever wanted and more.

His name is Noel and he's hot and sweet and plays amazing hockey.

I think he could be the one.

Too bad there's one huge problem - I'm not who he thinks I am.

No, I'm just an illusion.

An illusion that's about to shatter...like ice.

Illusion on Ice is the seventh novel in the bestselling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.

A Great Hockey Romance

I love hockey romances! This is my first audiobook from Avie Paige and this is a solo narration where she narrates the full story in both male and female POV. This book switches every other chapter in the Hero and Heroine's POV. I liked her voice for the male characters more than I liked her voice for the heroine, Maisie. At times, it seemed like the heroine's voice was a bit on the whiney side, but overall, the narration was done well. As for the storyline, I really like Noel and him as the hero! I couldn't understand Maisie's struggle with her mother, but it also seemed real because it's very human to keep believing and hoping someone will change. I haven't caught up with the full storyline in this series, I've only read the very first book. However, it wasn't needed in order to read this book, which is seventh in the series. It did peak my interest in the rest of the series though and finding out how everyone else's stories pan out and also what happens with Noel's twin sister and if she gets her own HEA!

Heat on the ice!

Noel and Maisie's story was a good one. The way that they met was a little unconventional, but I could tell from the get go that Maisie wasn't really that person. I loved watching these two fall in love and become so much more to each other. The story kept moving and we got glimpses into other characters from the series. I loved Noel who was such a great book boyfriend to Maisie. He wouldn't let her go no matter and took time to really understand why she did what she did.

I love listening to these stories. My only wish would be for the narrator to be a little more different between men and women characters. Sometimes they sounded the same. It was a good listen though.

sweet story

Maisy is doubtful, insecure, felt that she was never good enough. Everyone in her life has left her. Will Noel leave her too?
What Noel had to do is convince her not to run, be strong and believe in them. I enjoyed listening to this story narrated by Avie Paige.

All because of Sweden

This is first book I have read/listened to by this author, but I love sports romance, especially hockey. This story was sweet, it was nice how Noel took care of Maisie. Maisie had a difficult time prior to meeting Noel and needed to know someone cared. Hockey was definitely more behind the scenes, then a big part of the story. I am interested in reading Noelle's story and hopefully finding out more about this couple's future. Avie Paige narrated this audiobook and I wished it was duel narrated, I think that would have given the book more depth.

Illusion on Ice was a cute story of fighting for love, learning to love and accept yourself and your flaws, and finding your strength in honesty. This is the first book I've read by S.R. Grey and I thought it was super cute. I had no problem following the book and the characters, despite this being the seventh book in the series. I'd like to read the first six. Illusion on Ice was a fun listening escape, well-written and super sweet. I really likes Noel but maybe not Maisie very much. I'd like to have seen more of their HEA to see more of her redemption.

Noel💘Maisie! Wonderful Story & Narration🎧

I enjoyed everything about this great book, S.R. Grey’s writing style, the storylines and characters she created as well as the wonderful narration. This is the 7th book of the “Boys of Winter” series, but my first and it can be enjoyed completely as a stand-alone. I enjoyed it so much I added the rest of the series to my wish list. This story had my attention right from the start and held it to the end. Maisie, the female lead, is left to fend for herself in Stockholm, Sweden after her mother takes off to travel Europe with her wealthy boyfriend. She left Maisie in his luxurious hotel room with funds or money to return back to the US. Maisie needs to come up with the funds to get her home, so she masterminds a plan to befriend someone who can help her out. She finds out the US hockey team are in the playoffs and are staying at the same hotel. She heads to the bar to find a target. Noel is walking in the lobby when Maisie catches his eye and he follows her to the bar and then strikes up a conversation with her. The two hit it off and Maisie’s plan does not come off easy for her, she struggles with crossing lines and being dishonest, which is something I loved about her. Noel is such a nice guy, understanding and has such a huge heart. I loved how their story played out, from the getting to know you phase to when Maisie thought she was doing the right thing to what happens when they return to the states. This is an enjoyable sweet romance, there is never a dull moment here, there is drama, emotions, some fun times as well as heartfelt ones. S.R. Grey, thank you for another great and entertaining story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

I listened to the Audible edition, Avie Paige is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. She brings these characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality and a whole lot of heart. She does an amazing job projecting the emotions of the characters in to her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen 🎧

Noel was a sweet hockey boyfriend....

This is my first book by the author. I love sports romances, especially hockey romances so I was really looking forward to this and I always love trying out a new author. The story line intrigued me from the start and I immediately found myself falling for Noel, a pro hockey star who made it clear from the start that althogh he loved hockey, he was at a point in his life that he was looking for more. Unfortunately, Maisie wasn't painted in such a good light from the beginning of the book, and although some of that can be attributed to her mother and her past and her circumstances, it was kind of hard for her to rebound from that given the choices she made both at the start of the book in how she meets Noel and also in her default coping mechanism of running away.

I did love how Noel showed how much he cared for Maisie and worked to earn her trust and I loved how he found her and wanted to take care of her. It just seemed lopsided a bit at times, though Maisie did try to make up for that somewhat at times. I would like to try and read some other books by the author.

This was my first listen by Avie Paige. It seemed like the flow of the narration of book in the beginning wasn't as smooth as it could be, but it definitely improved as the book went on, and I definitely enjoyed her narration of Noel more than Maisie, but I would definitely be interested in listening to more of her work. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Shattered Illusion

Illusion on Ice Boys of Winter, Book 8 gives you a bit of passion, ice sport, and peaks and valleys in this hockey romance series. Noel Sandlund is a treasure, swoon worthy man. Maisie Troy and Norl Sandlund have bat of the eye magnetism & sky high chemistry. Entertaining, sweet, sensual and visionary. Witty moments spool through the pages of this sprightly listen. I loved the bubbly ending. Looking forward to listening to the next audiobook in this series Forbidden on Ice, which is Blake's story when available.

Narator Avie Paige did a suasive performance. A mélange of inflection. She is zealous and a bit overdramatic.

Fun Read

This was a fun read. Maisie is stuck in Sweden thanks to her mom, her relationship with her mom was unexpected. I liked that there were parts that were different than expected, especially when others were predictable. Noel was a great character. Overall it was a fun bubbly story.

Avie Paige's narration was good, though at times it both voices were too similar.
