Publisher's summary

A Stonewall Honor Book · A New York Times and Indie bestseller!

“A bighearted, deeply vulnerable, love-bubbly tumble through self-discovery.”—Casey McQuiston, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling I Kissed Shara Wheeler

With humor and insight, #1 New York Times bestseller Becky Albertalli explores the nuances of sexuality, identity, and friendship in this timely new novel.

Imogen Scott may be hopelessly heterosexual, but she’s got the World’s Greatest Ally title locked down.

She's never missed a Pride Alliance meeting. She knows more about queer media discourse than her very queer little sister. She even has two queer best friends. There's Gretchen, a fellow high school senior, who helps keep Imogen's biases in check. And then there's Lili—newly out and newly thriving with a cool new squad of queer college friends.

Imogen's thrilled for Lili. Any ally would be. And now that she's finally visiting Lili on campus, she's bringing her ally A game. Any support Lili needs, Imogen's all in.

Even if that means bending the truth, just a little.

Like when Lili drops a tiny queer bombshell: She's told all her college friends that Imogen and Lili used to date. And none of them know that Imogen is a raging hetero—not even Lili’s best friend, Tessa.

Of course, the more time Imogen spends with chaotic, freckle-faced Tessa, the more she starts to wonder if her truth was ever all that straight to begin with. . .

7/10 Would recommend

I enjoyed the “fake dating” cliche with a twist. I just wish the characters had more depth in their motives and backstories.

Just listen

Very cute story! Enjoyed the innocence of it. Makes you think about the labels we all give ourselves and others.

Great teenage ankst story, if you like that sort of thing

It’s a lot of texting that can be hard to follow, but I loved the overall story. Can you decide you’re queer long after all the people you know have told you they are, including your little sister, and everyone, including yourself said you were straight??

The discourse response was brilliant

Becky really said, I’m going to write this gatekeeping queer discourse into a lovely and sweet YA and I’m here for it!! We stan Becky, bisexuals, and of course all those that are questioning and who come out later in life. Xoxo

Wonderful and sweet story

There is so much going on in this wonderful story about two people who fall for each other over the course of a week… against a backdrop of self doubt and gay purity questions. Hint: pay attention to the younger sister as the moral compass . The narration by Caitlin Kinnunen was perfect

I wish this book existed when I was in high school.

This is a beat for beat retelling of what I wish I’d been brave enough to do for myself when I was 18. I hope queer and questioning kids love this story as much as I did. Spot on narration. Just all five stars!
