Vincent Corinthos has two things going for him: he's a top operative of a secret agency tasked with handling paranormal threats, and he's half-god. Normally that's a combo that leaves him well-equipped to handle any problems that come his way.
Until now. Something is snatching Boston's most powerful paranormal entities right off the streets. Vampires, lycanthropes, fae, gremlins - no one is safe. No ransom notes, no bodies, no witnesses. Rumors swirl about a secret project that's experimenting on paranormals. Then a fellow agent disappears and things get personal.
Aided by a new partner and a hyperactive gremlin with an appetite for junk food, Vincent must find the missing paranormals before everything he cares about falls under the control of Project Imperium.

Megan, Vincent’s partner is one of those prodigies, who could possibly be the future savior. But right now, she is the woman would can pull weapons from a different universe. This is really handy because Vincent’s power is a result of the prayers of the Urisk. Also, someone tried to eradicated the Urisk, so Vincent reservoir of power was not so great. Don’t be fooled, Vincent can take care of himself.
The love of his life, Petra has a heart of stone, but she loves him. Gears is a manic little character who is techno savvy. Petra and Gears has metabolisms, which allows them to eat any kind of junk food. The world that Nicholas Olivo has set up had a lot of potential.
It is worth the credit.

Caulborn, Book 1
By: Nicholas Olivo
Narrated by: Ian McEuen
This is a fast and fun story about a half -God named Vincent. He works at a secret agency, think Men in Black but not for aliens but for paranormal creatures such as vampires, golems, ghosts, etc. His girlfriend is a golem, but a sexy one. He also has a new partner who he is showing the ropes to.
Someone is kidnapping paranormal residents. Rumor is they are experimenting on them. Vincent and his new partner are looking into it.
Meanwhile, someone is trying to kill off his residents in his world where he reigns.
Someone is trying to kill him on the world he works. He has very limited power there.
Lots of action, great characters and plot, world building, and magical use. Fun book to read! Enjoyed it thoroughly!
The narrator performed wonderfully!

Vincent, our noble protagonist, is a demi-god living in Boston and working for a clandestine agency who polices the hidden supernatural elements of modern society. The synopsis for Imperium found on Audible/Goodreads is sufficient for an intro, just let me say that there are so many elements of growth and exploration available in this remarkable world Mr Olivo has built that I don’t see any of the tired and stale plot situations that one can readily find in some other Urban Fantasy series making an appearance in this series if you choose to follow it. I would even like some backstory, maybe even a prequel (which I usually detest), the story and characters are just that damn interesting. The supporting characters, not just the main character, are “fleshed out” wonderfully and their interactions are believable.
Ian McEuen delivered a superb performance and contributed significantly to my enjoyment of the audiobook. He had many unique voices for not only a lot of characters but a lot of species and did a wonderful job of keeping all of those unique voices tied to unique characters. Mr McEuen’s voices were so distinctive that I built mental images of the characters based solely on the particular nuanced voice he gave them. I haven’t heard a performance by Mr McEuen before, but with his professional performance of Imperium, I have no doubt he will be a Voice in demand. He delivered a nuanced performance that built tension when required and levity when appropriate.
In short, if you like the Urban Fantasy genre, Imperium deserves your attention and your hard-earned credit. With its marvelous world-building and unique characters coupled with a masterful narration performance, Imperium should serve as a wake-up call to the rest of the genre that they had best up their game or this upstart new author will show them how it should properly be done!

Surprisingly excellent and original Urban Fantasy

Vincent Corinthos, our main protagonist and demigod, was born with the Caul (you'll find out). He is also an agent of Caulborn, a sort of paranormal bureau of investigation, and his latest case involves the mysterious disappearance of several paranormals. Vincent and his new partner, Megan, team up with Gremlins and Golems in an attempt to stop these disappearances. In addition to battling vampires in New England, Vinny has his own problems on the Bright Side; someone is trying to take control of the Urisk. The Urisk worship Vincent as a god, which is the source of his godlike powers.
I enjoyed this audio book immensely! Vinny is charismatic, caring, and humble; he's a hero you can't help but love. Chemistry between the characters is great, as well as the characters themselves. They are all unique and three-dimensional, enjoyable and relatable in their own right. It's filled with all manner of creatures; from mythological and biblical, to things that go bump in the night this world has it. There are some unique applications to some of these creatures that I really enjoyed, but you'll have to listen yourself to find out what. Which should be a pleasure thanks to Ian McEuen.
McEuen was very impressive and a complete pleasure to listen to. He reminded me of Nick Podehl, which is an absolute compliment. In addition to the great production quality, I felt he was a great voice for the novel. His voice talent is very good and his delivery added a lot to the characters. From what I've seen he has only a few books on audible. I will be getting the second Caulborn audio book and I look forward to hearing more from both Nicholas Olivo an Ian McEuen.
