About this listen

An old friend. A new course. A deadly ship with a secret cargo.

Ishmael Wang returns to Port Newmar, but ghosts from his past have followed him. His old shipmate, Phillip Carstairs, offers him the opportunity to track down the man who killed his lover. The catch? He must take command of the Chernyakova, a ship that still stinks of death and haunts Ishmael's nightmares.

Together Phillip and Ismael begin a journey into unknown reaches of the Deep Dark to bring back the man who killed Greta.

Welcome back Ishmael

This is the second series with Ishmael Wang as the central figure. If you have not read "Quarter Share" and the other five books in that series, I recommend you do so before the three books in this series.

I really like the above series and I have enjoyed this book. I like the characters and their attitude toward others. l have thoroughly enjoyed the laid back story with only limited dysfunctional interpersonal interactions. If you are looking for an easy fun read, this series might meet your need.

If you like guns, death, and gratuitous sex, this series is not for you. That is why I personally enjoy the series. In 2021, who needs more stress, more guns and more death.

This is a wonderful start on Ishmael's return to space. I am waiting for the day I can punch the pre-order button on the next book.

Even better than the first series!

It starts with the feel that I loved of the first book in the last series. It only gets better. The last few chapters had me laughing and cheering. Looking forward to the next one!

A great comfy sci-fi listen

I did prefer the version originally read by the author, but no complaints about this one!

Just like A Phoenix

Born out of it's own ashes like a Phoenix.

A great way to start a new series. there are things I have always wondered. Such as why kill Chief Gerhardt so violently or even at all. once again reminding us that not every story has a happy ending. it was good to see that Pip( Phillip Carstairs) and Chief Stevens made back into the life of Wang. Chernyakova with her ever present grief like a Phoenix born out out of it's own ashes will once again rise to glory.

I purchased this audio along with a kindle copy. i was reading along but then stopped as I had other things to do. I will continue to read along and listen a second time.

I urge anyone who reads this review to find the first books in the series and read those .
Why?
Because they're free!
And they are great!

Great listen!

I've always really enjoyed the author's stories. The ones I listened to before, he narrated personally. While I'm not usually a huge fan of that, he has a terrific voice, and I'd come to associate it with these characters. The narrator was very good, but I did struggle in the beginning to move beyond that, through no fault of the narrator.

I definitely enjoyed it. I've always struggled with how quick the main character fell in the last story for someone we knew very little about. That's been my only beef with the series, so I'm excited to see what happens going forward. I hope more of the original characters are reintroduced!
