About this listen

“Sizzling, Witty, Passionate...Perfect!”

-Eloisa James, New York Times bestselling author

Christi Caldwell, USA TODAY bestselling author of the Wicked Wallflowers series, combs London’s underground and finds romance and danger for a missing lord and the lady who loves him.

To solve a mystery that’s become the talk of the ton, no clues run too deep for willful reporter Verity Lovelace. Not even in the sewers of London. That’s precisely where she finds happily self-sufficient scavenger Malcom North, lost heir to the Earl of Maxwell. Now that Verity’s made him front-page news, what will he make of her?

Kidnapped as a child, with no memories of his well-heeled past, Malcom prefers the grimy spoils of the culverts to the gilded riches of society. Damn the feisty beauty who exposed the contented tosher to a parade of fortune-hunting matchmakers. How to keep them at bay? Verity must pretend to be his wife. She owes him.

The intimacy of this necessary arrangement - Verity and Malcom thrust together in close quarters - soon sparks an irresistible heat. But when the charade ends, the danger begins. Will love be enough to protect them from a treacherous plot devised to ruin them?

I think it dragged a bit in the middle but was otherwise a fine read

Wonderful Regency romance

This was my first Christi Caldwell novel. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Tim Campbell's narration was spot on. The premise of the story was good; it had twists and turns but in all was a delightful diversion. 4.5 ⭐

This was a great book!! 😩

I enjoyed every minute of it! The way the story just unraveled itself was just so good. A really good start for the series. The main characters had such great chemistry! Tim Campbell killed the narration! He did an excellent job. ☺️

male narrative

Male narrators don't make the best female voices. He did well for the male part but there should have been a female reading the female part. Otherwise I enjoyed most of the book

I'm in love with the narrator's voice

The voice made the story. Enunciation was perfect. Pitch & timber superb. Well acted out.

Excellent..

I really liked this book, except for a couple of things. I don’t like reading about a woman who worries from day to day if they’d have enough to eat then read that she’s “plump.” The chances of anyone even being close to plump when food is scarce is crazy. AND I absolutely hate it when a woman is described as “five feet nothing,” and the hero is six feet four. “When she’s nose to nose her toes are on it and when she’s toes to toes her nose is on it.” That’s what I think of when she’s soooo short and he’s soooo tall. I mean, for Pete’s sake, picture it! She too short to even reach around his neck and he’s too tall to kiss her without bending his knees and bending over to reach her lips. I wish authors wouldn’t do that. BUT, that’s just my opinion!

Verity was nowhere near stupid. She made no stupid decisions and was very brave because she didn't take Malcom's crap. She was afraid of him but she wasn't stupid, IMO.

This was about an earl who was kidnapped as a small boy, Maxwell/Malcom, and taken to live in the Dials in London and was not discovered to be alive until he was in his 30’s, and even then he had a difficult time remembering who he really was and if he really wanted the life of the “ton” or if he wanted to stay in the sewers of the Dials. AND that’s where he met reporter Verity Lovelace.

There was sex in this book and the F-bomb was used 6 times.

As to the narrator: It doesn’t get any better than Tim Campbell. The man is a genius with accents.

Ok if you suspend reality

If you can get past the part about the young boy kidnapped at 6 or 7 who grows up in the sewers yet speaks like nobility and is fairly educated it's fine. That part was so improbable that every time it was mentioned I had to remind myself to suspend reality. idk. not even worth a credit, really.
