About this listen
American artist Joseph Hannigan and his alluring sister, Sophie, have arrived in enchanting nineteenth-century Venice with a single-minded goal. The twins, who have fled scandal in New York, are determined to break into Venice's expatriate set and find a wealthy patron to support Joseph's work.
But the enigmatic Hannigans are not the only ones with a secret agenda. Joseph's talent soon attracts the attention of the magnificent Odilé Leon, a celebrated courtesan and muse who has inspired many artists to greatness. But her inspiration comes with a devastatingly steep price.
As Joseph falls under the courtesan's spell, Sophie joins forces with Nicholas Dane, the one man who knows Odilé's dark secret, and her sworn enemy. When the seductive muse offers Joseph the path to eternal fame, the twins must decide who to believe - and just how much they are willing to sacrifice for fame.

Of course, I’m not going to murder her in the night. I need my laptop back first. That’s the whole point of making friends with Emily Harper, author of the hugely successful novel Diary of an Octopus. So I could get into her apartment and take back what’s mine. Emily doesn’t know who I really am. She thinks I’m her biggest fan, her new best friend who happens to need a place to stay for a few days. She doesn’t realize the laptop she found—and took—from a busy airport almost two years ago was mine. I don’t care about the laptop, just what's on it: my diary.

Mysticism, Mystery, Love, Loyalty and Sacrifice
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would definitely recommend this audiobook to my friends. This is an excellent book, and I think listening to it narrated added a whole new level of enjoyment.
What other book might you compare Inamorata to and why?
I think the closest book(s) I would compare Inamorata to would be Dan Brown's books, where he weaves history, mysticism, mystery, and of course a love interest into his stories.
What does David deVries bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
David deVries did an excellent job narrating this book. Having been to Venice, I could see in my mind the places he was describing in the book, and experienced all the descriptions with all my senses (smell, sight, hearing, touch). When the reader should feel apprehension or fear, I was in that moment completely, on the edge of my seat. When the relationships between characters were described, I could feel it as if I were the character. He even did an excellent job narrating the different female and male voices, which I think would be difficult for a male narrator. I would probably buy another audible book just because it was narrated by David deVries.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Definitely! I couldn't stop listening...I was completely captivated. I usually listen to my audiobooks first thing in the morning as I drink my morning coffee and prepare mentally for my work day, and for 2 days I listened for 3-4 hours straight and picked up where I left off in the evening.
Any additional comments?
Great book, great narration. I would highly recommend this audible book as a first time experience to those new to Audible!

Really disturbing
Would you try another book from Megan Chance and/or David deVries?
Probably not, but the narrator did okay.
What was most disappointing about Megan Chance’s story?
[Spoilers}
I wish I'd known this was quite as disturbing as it is. Themes of incest, child abuse, sex and dead bodies. A bit too dark for my taste.

Not what I expected....in a good way
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! Even though this book (in my opinion) can be considered paranormal, we don't read to many about succubae/incubi. It is great insight into their behaviors. And to attach the story to great artists, musicians, poets, etc was a great move.
What did you like best about this story?
This is not your typical romance. There are a lot of new spins to it and it was not overdone. The story was well put together and it also flowed well.
Which character – as performed by David deVries – was your favorite?
the sister was my favorite. He portrayed her personality and how she felt.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The end when a big decision/sacrifice has to be made. I wanted to scream and say "Noooooo" but it had to be done.

Good story, good writing, good narration
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. I enjoyed listening to it. The narrator did a good job with all of the characters voices (with the exception of a guy I believe was supposed to be German but sounded like a good ole boy from America - but he is a very minor side character).
Would you recommend Inamorata to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes. Its not great literature but it is an interesting story and the overall feel of the book and writing is of beauty tinged with darkness.

Middling
Two and a half stars, really. Like the main characters, this book was strange, but oddly interesting. There was no real movement until about halfway. The storyline was tired, but the writing was good.
The narrator didn't help at all. Each of his accents sounded forced (his french was particularly bad). Even his American accent sounded like he'd learned English from 1940s movies - and I think he's an American by birth
Would not recommend.

An incredible story - the narrator, not so much
Inamorata is a riveting story but the narrator completely ruined the parts written from female characters' perspective. He made the heroins sound infantile and stupid. Maybe this pretentious manner and speaking softly is how he imagines females spoke back in the day, or should still be speaking. Maybe somebody else wouldn't mind the narration at all but it aggrevated me to no end. To be fair, narrator's done great with the rest of the book.
Still, a fantastic story.
