About this listen

Although a year has passed, not a day goes by without Meggie thinking of Inkheart, the book whose characters came to life and changed her life forever.

But for Dustfinger, the fire-eater brought into being from words, the need to return to the tale has become desperate. When he finds a crooked storyteller with the ability to read him back, Dustfinger leaves behind his young apprentice Farid and plunges into the medieval inkscape once more.

Distraught, Farid goes in search of Meggie, and before long, both are caught inside the book, too. There they meet Inkheart's author, Fenoglio, now living within his own story. But the tale is much changed, and threatening to evolve in ways none of them would ever have imagined. Will Meggie, Farid, and Fenoglio manage to write the wrongs of a charmed world? Or is their story on the brink of a very bad ending?

An excellent narrator

I prefer not to make comments on books as I believe each person needs to delve into their realms untarnished by the judgements of others. As such, this review is actually for the narrator.

Brendan Fraser is an amazing reader. I've liked him well enough in the various movies I've seen, but I had no idea I would enjoy this book so much more because of him. He has a pleasant voice which tells the story easily and blends well into the narration, allowing the many characters in this book to really attain a life of their own. His accents, tones and lilts are wonderful. It's so much simpler for me listening to a book this way, since I'm rarely sitting still while reading. The ability to differentiate between characters without having to rewind is invaluable.

I've enjoyed this book very much, more so than I did Inkheart, because of his reading. What a delightful surprise!

Still Fun

Unlike (and I know I bash Potter too much)Rowlings books, the second installation of Inkheart still held my interest. The world inside the book remains realistic and the characters, despite admitted dimensionality stay clever. If you liked the first one, this is realiably more of the same.

Great "read"

I looked forward to listening every chance I got. Fraser had slight inconsistencies in character voices but I can easily forgive that given his enthusiasm for the reading. The wide range of choices for the character voices, although a bit odd, made them interesting. I am reading Inkheart now - in book form. I would love to hear Redgrave's reading of the book, but I can't wait for this month's point.

An average sequel.

This story started off interesting, but became boring once the story began taking place in Ink World. I preferred the original story, which took place in the real world. I wish they kept this story in the real world, as well. I wish they had used Meggie's powers a little more creatively too and had her read things out of real books as she did in first story.

I wasn't invested in the Ink fantasy world. The book focused too much on boring characters such as Farid and not enough on Meggie like the original story. The romance was awkward and out of place as well. I wasn't invested in many of the characters outside Fenoglio, Basta, Cosimo, and the Adderhead.

I have mixed feelings about Brendan Fraser's narration. He was narrator voice was monotoned and lacked energy for the most part. I felt he was read action little too quickly. The voices he gave Cosimo, Orpheus, the Adderhead, Fenoglio, and Basta were great and had a lot of energy that I wish he had put into the rest of his performance.

Better Than the First One!

This sequel is terrific! And Brennan Fraser is doing the voices, and he's a terrific reader. (Apparently Cornelia Funke loves him and wants him to be Moe in the upcoming movie!) If you were turned off by some gaps in the first book, they are explained in this one. This time we all get to experience Inkheart's scenary and it's more than I had imagined. Great read; you're sure to love it. Although, it might be a little scary for those under 9. Perfect for a family going across the country, no doubt! I listened to it on my move from AZ to OR.

Bring back book 1 reader!!!

Ugh the reader for the second book is so obnoxious! Great series and Great book but the reader makes her great aunt Elenor sound like a shrieking chicken the whole freaking book. I almost couldn’t make it through the book because the reader is so utterly terrible!!
