Publisher's summary

Set in the Cotswolds, this is the next instalment in the adventures of Inspector Hobbes, Mrs Goodfellow, and Dregs, as narrated by the still disaster-prone Andy Caplet. It is a rip roaring, funny, and moving tale of Andy's infatuation with a dangerously beautiful woman, starting off during investigations into sheep deaths and the mysterious disappearance of pheasants.

These incidents appear to be connected to a rash of big cat sightings, and something horrible seems to be lurking in the woods. Is Andy cursed to be always unsuccessful in love, or is the curse something much darker, something that will arouse his primeval terrors?

rather enjoyable

I think the narrator has vowel dyslexia. He seems to swap them around making words sound very odd. The story is superficially enjoyable with some moments that make you laugh out loud. The predictable setups stick out like dogs bits but otherwise enjoyable.

Entertaining as the first but fell a bit short

Loved this book. Love the series. Loved the characters, the story, dialog, and narrator.
I just feel it felt it ended without a resolution.

Of course there were not as many surprises as the first book and that shaves a bit off the fun.

Don't let this dissuade you from listening! The journey is worth it. Get this book!

More Please!

this is the second or third time that I have listened to the series and I will listen again! I literally never listen to books twice or read them twice, but this series is so satisfying so much fun and I hear something new each time I listen.

great book. .. again I am pleased

I am very happy with the next installment of the quirky adventures of this inspector and the poor writer who can't get anything right. But I like watching him grow

A paranormal comedy that's entertaining & exciting

Inspector Hobbes and Andy Caplet are at it again! Hobbes is trying to save the townsfolk of Cotswolds from deadly panther-like cats and Andy is falling in love, well maybe, one can never truly be for sure. Hobbes has yet another deadly mystery to solve and Andy in his sad sack way stumbles across the clues. No one is more surprised than Andy to discover he has become the obsession of not one but two creatures …

I enjoyed this book very much. Of course one may find themselves annoyed by Andy but if one looks at him as a bumbling inept person with good intentions, then he’s more fun and enjoyable. Hobbes, for all his unhuman qualities, is filled with compassion and intelligence far more superior than Sherlock Holmes – he’s just more modest about it.

Wilkie Martin has created a world in which human and unhuman may exist together. A paranormal comedy that is entertaining and exciting blending fantasy and mystery together expertly. He has built his characters deftly and with richness.

Again, Tim Campbell serves as the narrator telling the story from Andy Caplets point of view. Campbell becomes Andy and does it smoothly and with great finesse. He has the perfect voice for both Andy and Hobbes.

If you enjoy comedy and paranormal creatures with a mixture of Sherlock Holmes, this is the series for you! I thoroughly enjoy them.

Detecting

I am digging this series very much. I love how you think your going to learn something about who Hobbs is,but then he answers the question in a way that says maybe next time I will be more forward and detailed with my questions. I love the character of Hobbs very much and I don’t mind his side kick, but hope he improves himself to the point were he can live in Hobbs world.

Plodding Along

This story is fine. Just fine. The reader comes to every conclusion hours before you reach the end of the book. Honestly, you will reach the conclusion before you reach the middle of this book. At that point, you simply have to wait for the characters to catch up with you.

Another winner from the Unhuman collection!

Puns and plays on words aren't for everyone's tastes, but I adore them! They make a commute to and from DC a much better time. I still feel for Andy, who seems to attract disaster at every turn, sometimes literally; And the dog, Dregs would be my ideal companion!
I enjoy these types of books, where the subtle supernatural mingles with the present day antics! The mysteries are often easy to figure out, but it doesn't take away from the overall storyline.
Looking forward to the next book!

I love unhumans

This is my second book a red Inspector hops and the blood and I was pulled in.I can’t stand Andy He’s a terrible human being but because he so terrible he makes the unhumans a delight no matter how flawed. I think because he’s human that’s why his terrible aspect stand out sooo much. but he makes a delightful narrator of the story the narrator himself I love his voice him as Hobbs , Andy and the old woman is flawless I sometimes think I’m Listening to a full cast production
