About this listen

A knight of Cygnar follows a strict moral code. His integrity is beyond reproach. He holds himself to the highest standards whether dealing with friend or foe. And he values honor above all.

The year is 606 AR, and Cygnar has been sorely pressed by its enemies both at home and abroad. In Caspia, the conflict with the Protectorate is about to erupt into full war with the looming invasion of Sul. The Cygnaran military is desperate for soldiers with the skill, strength, and bravery to take up the devastating galvanic weaponry of the new Storm Division. In this climate, every soldier is valuable, even those fallen from the honor expected of a Storm Knight. A group of such men - thieves, drunkards, and worse - comprise the Sixth Platoon. All they need is someone to lead them.

Lieutenant Hugh Madigan, a peerless warrior knighted during the reign of deposed King Vinter IV, has spent years in obscurity, punished for his loyalty to the former king. Now he has been ordered back to the front and given command of the Sixth, his task to turn a platoon of miscreants into elite soldiers fit to be called Storm Knights. Time is short, and war is coming. One way or another, Lieutenant Madigan must lead his men into the storm....

Best book I've bought in months

Would you listen to Into the Storm again? Why?

Yes, Each of the characters and interesting and lovable never get tired of listening.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Into the Storm?

"Most Storm Knight standards had more eloquent mottos, often long sayings related to honor, duty, or valor or even quotes from kings or the wisdom of the ascendants, but the Malcontents' motto consisted of a single word. Redemption"

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

Did a good job of multiple voices and accents. Makes each one come to life.

Madigan's Dirty Dozen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Good mixture of fantasy and science-fiction. The characters are interesting and charismatic and feel like brothers. The fighting scenes are not romantize, instead they are gruesome and bloody.

What other book might you compare Into the Storm to and why?

The Dity Dozen. Madigan's Malcontents are the worse of the worse. Drunks, thieves, cowards, and possible lunatics, under Madigan and his support squad they become a true fighting force and gain redemption.

Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?

Savio Acosta. The Ordic mercenary is charismatic and well written.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Redemption.

Any additional comments?

Into the Storm expands the political turmoil and rebuild of Cygnar after the Lion's Coup. Cassia feels alive and the morals of the characters are relatable.

Terrific tale of war, the Dirty Dozen with some magic

Ray Porter, who does such a terrific job reading Chandler's Marlow noir detective novels, is outstanding here as well. Correia has done his fantasy take on the Dirty Dozen and created a wonderful story of two nations at war, using bullets, flaming swords, fighting robots and more. Great stuff, hope there is a series to come here.

A surprisingly fantastic story

I generally like Larry's works. He always has a good grasp of writing characters and action. The plot moves along at a quick pace but it doesn't feel rushed. I won't spoil the ending but, it was emotionally moving and well written. I hadn't been expecting that from a piece that was made for a miniatures company. I will certainly be listening to it again in the future.

Like watching an action packed movie.

Entertaining fantasy without out getting into do much world building that it gets boring. I love the Monster Hunter series and when this came on sale, I snatched it up. There were a few fantasy blunders such as ‘getting hit felt like getting hit by a train’, didn’t know there was trains in this fantasy. The best thing about Larry Correia writing is his characters, I even like the personality of the war machine. The characters are intriguing and personable, no MHI but still good. It is interesting how the point of view is from different soldiers and doesn’t have only one protagonist. In each chapter you never know whose perspective it will be from. This story is like watching a good action flick. Narrator is excellent.

The premise is a bit familiar but it really works

I loved this story. The premise of a band of misfits finding redemption through sacrifice in service is not new, but it really grounds the setting in familiar territory and makes it believable. Well worth it even if you know nothing of the Iron Kingdoms and enjoy war stories.

The only good Warmachine novel I've read.

Most fiction from the Warmachine/Hordes game universe is worthless drivel. This was not. This was a great book by a great writer who just happens to like the same game I do, and wrote an excellent story about it.

He does it again!!

The author truly is a great one, this book has everything you could want and it lives up to its siblings(Grimnoir Series, and the monster hunter Series) and to boot the reader is one of my favorites. The only bad part is that it wasn't longer!
