After the bloody battle of Colden Moor, the warlike highlanders had lost their independence. They lived in surly subservience to the Outlanders, and only a teenage girl survived to represent the line of kings: Sigarni.
Sigarni the silver-haired. Huntress, whore, princess. All of these she was called. But those who pierce the veil of the future knew that a leader was coming to the North - a leader descended from Ironhand, mightiest of the highland kings.

The voice performance and narration is by a highly talented voice performer who was miscast in this instance. She consistently struggles with convincing male voices and her localized accents range from trite to a twisted garbled mess that can be almost unintelligible. When doing pure narration she is excellent.
Terrific story spoiled by voice performance

If you could sum up Ironhand's Daughter in three words, what would they be?
Another fine David Gemmell tale (ok, that's five words)What did you like best about this story?
While not the best of Gemmell's stories, this one is still riveting and quite entertaining. I especially like the sense of foreboding building up in the first half of the book.Would you be willing to try another one of Adjoa Andoh’s performances?
I'd rather not, but I'm going to listen to the second book in this cycle as well. After that, count me out. Andoh just can't do accents and decent male voices at the same time. Also, the voice she's using to portray Sigarni sounds either like a scared thirteen-year old girl or a cackling 80-year old hag (no offense meant to either thirteen-year olds or old hags). Nothing suggests any of the various strengths the character should possess. Her normal voice on the other hand is quite pleasing, and this is one of the rare occasions when I would actually have been quite happy if that had been all she'd been using for her performance. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Because of the performance, no, I would not want to.A kingdom for the right voice
