David W. Allan
About this listen
Is there a realm known as God's time or an eternity-domain?
What about man's time?
What about transcendental time?
Where are we in time?
The concept of time is one of those things we humans take entirely for granted. Few people ever dedicate the effort to learn what time is?
David W. Allan has been measuring time for over 54 years as an atomic clock physicist. He has sliced the second into billionths, quadrillionths, and even smaller.
Such precision has enabled developments like GPS and cellular communication, something we all are aware of.
The author's devotion to learning and the pursuit of truth has revealed a surprisingly strong connection between things spiritual, scientific, physical, political, historical, and mental.
It's about time we became aware of the ideas that bind us to the eternal. This is (according to the author) the most exciting time in the history of the planet... and we are living it!
Note: David W. Allan is one of the most renowned scholars in the world of horology (the study of time). His writings come from a decidedly LDS/Mormon perspective. While he does not recruit or admonish listeners in any way, he sites his tradition and occasionally makes reference to the scriptures that inform his belief system. Along with Glenn Beck, David (and some 14 million others) have discovered that there is far more common ground between Latter-day Saints, Christians, and Jews that most would have imagined.
This book is witness to that truth. He encourages all to listen to it and see if it does not true to your heart. He encourages those of his own faith to explore the book for the very same reasons, truly it is a new exploration for all.

Story
Joseph Smith taught that knowledge is the power of salvation. With that in mind, one might wonder: What was the purpose for introducing temple ordinances to the Church? Are they simply arcane rituals to be memorized? Do they have some inherent magic necessary for redemption? Or are they rather intended to help the Saints gain knowledge, particularly knowledge which saves? And if imparting knowledge is their purpose, then what is the Lord trying to teach us? Once we have received the ordinances is that enough or is more required to complete our endowment?

As the world anticipates its end, we Latter-Day Saints are preparing to build the city of Zion. With so much emphasis on building Zion physically on earth, we sometimes forget the best place to build Zion is within our own hearts. John Pontius carefully details the importance of Zion in our own lives, opening our eyes to our oft-overlooked obligations and vast privileges.

Story
Putting On Christ is a road map of our heroic journey to spiritual rebirth, also referenced in the holy writ as “the gate” that leads to eternal life. This gate is the first comforter which is received and initiated through a “baptism of fire” and the manifestation of the Lord’s spirit. The Savior said, “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: For many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able” (Luke 13:24). For the true seeker and truth seeker, Putting On Christ may prove a valuable guide for the journey.

Story
Robert MacFarlane has written that language does not just register experience, it produces it. Our religious language in particular informs and shapes our understanding of God, our sense of self, and the way we make sense of our challenging path back to loving heavenly parents. Unfortunately, to an extent we may not realize, our religious vocabulary has been shaped by prior generations whose creeds, in Joseph Smith's words, have filled the world with confusion. I make all things new, proclaimed the Lord. Regrettably, many are still mired in the past, in ways we have not recognized.

Great information and great variety
I loved reading this book. The variety of topics and the timeliness of them was fantastic. So much important information brought together in one resource. I think you could turn this book into a full year college course just trying to digest each part of it and read the excellent resources the author refers to. I look forward to spending more time with this book.

3 Books in One!!
From the beginning to the end of this book I completely took notes, sat open mouthed with awe and surprise at all the new insights that I learned — and learn as I listen again and again—from this wonderful author. He has truly lived a life that expresses the joy he has for Learning about God through the real scientific process—ask and ye SHALL receive—and his love for Jesus Christ and God‘s science. It’s amazing that even at his age he is still mountain biking! His health solutions obviously work!
He’s a great example of a man who applied what he knows and lives with integrity, and it comes out in these pages. A gem of a book! Everyone should have a dog- earred copy next to their Bible on their shelves… oh and a physics science dictionary. ;-)

A differing view of evolution
I realize that most reviews on David Allan's book were given close to 5 stars. I wonder if this partly because the raters had a high notion of religiosity. And therefore he was preaching to the choir. I am Christian and strongly believe that most of the Bible, especially the NT is close to being factual. But I have always assumed that much of the OT is metaphorical. I am a physician and neurologist. And it is obvious to me that evolution is factual without question. I also agree that Christianity and evolution can be understood to be compatible. However I was disappointed by this book in the way evolution was dismissed or distorted. Evolution is clearly valid and verifiable by several means. And obviously the earth is over 4000 years old- off by over 6 decimals - without even needing further comment. I would venture that even most Christians acknowledge this fact. And humanity is descended from the great apes which has been verified in many way anthropologically as well as genetically. I finally had to put this book down because it became bizarre. So I hope that I did not miss some punch line toward the end that I had not come to. And if so, I apologize. I really don't feel that science can prove religion or visa versa for that matter, especially if the OT is taken as absolute fact rather than metaphorical. But I do believe that many parallelisms can be drawn with a little flexibility in interpreting the OT. For example Genesis is the big bang. Knowledge of sin and temptation by the serpent in the Garden of Eden is the human inclination toward use of speech, and the knowledge of sin related to acquisition of symbol usage such that the difference between right and wrong, certainly an abstract concept that only through language can the concept be understood. Humanity is a species of the great ape, but a very unusual and special creature. He is one who uses digitized symbols, language and speech. And because of this unique ability (perhaps divinely inspired) capable of understanding creation of the universe (and the heavens), sending man into space, and relating complicated concepts to each other by composing works such as the Bible. And thereby humanity has arrived at the notion that there must be a creator - another abstract concept requiring language and symbols. And in this respect we are fashioned in his image. I might respectfully suggest the above concept as a better attempt. PH
