Publisher's summary

Twenty years have passed since Grianne Ohmsford denounced her former life as the dreaded Ilse Witch. Now fulfilling the destiny predicted for her, she has established the Third Druid Council and dedicated herself to its goals of peace, harmony among the races, and defense of the Four Lands. But the political intrigue, secret treachery, and sinister deeds that have haunted Druid history for generations to continue to thrive. And despite her devotion to the greater good as Ard Rhys - the High Druid of Paranor - Grianne still has bitter enemies.

Among the highest ranks of the Council she leads lurk those who cannot forget her reign of terror as the Isle Witch, who covet her seat of power, and who will stop at nothing to see her deposed - or destroyed. Even Grianne's few allies - chief among them her trusted servant Tagwen - know of the lots against her. But they could never anticipate the sudden, ominous disappearance of the Ard Rhys, in the dead of the night without a trace.

Now, barely a step ahead of the dark forces bent on stopping him, Tagwen joins Grianne's brave young nephew Penderrin Olmsford, and the wise, powerful elf Ahren Elessedil on a desperate and dangerous mission of search and rescue - to deliver the High Druid of Shannara from an unspeakable fate.

Wonderful Cliffhanger!

Very creative, as usual. Full of surprises and enjoyable characters. Can't wait for the next book! Did not love the narrator, but he wasn't awful. If you like Terry Brooks, you'll love Jarka Ruus.

When is that next book coming out?

I enjoyed this book, but felt completely betrayed as it ended in the middle of major conflict! The central conflict of this particular book doesn't get resolved. It's an interesting choice. I am certainly encouraged to buy the next one.... I look forward to the next in the series as the "cliff hangs" in my mind's eye.

The only critique I really have is that the reader of this book fell into some downward vocal patterns that made me feel as if I were listening to a relative of Eeyore. Terry Brooks' characters seemed to be stripped of the facets that I tend to experience when reading them on the page. Mr Brooks is a far more exciting writer than that.

Captivating can't wait for the next two books!

This is an awesome story and terry brooks is an amazing writer. The only disappointing thing is, is that it will be another year for the next book and anonther year after that for the last book. I highly recomend this book and any book Terry Brooks has written
