a good story

was a great story and a good listen can't wait for the next book. The story was full of adventure and some good adult humor.

Fun, fast paced romp through space.

Read this book about a year ago and loved it. Had the chance to pick up the audio version and jumped on it. Really enjoyed the characters and humour. Great performance by Mr. McAllister. I know I'll be listening to this several times over.

SciFi Funnies

Johnny is a lovable loser with a heart of gold and a brain of tin. Not to worry, he has six beautiful ladies to help him through his self-made trouble. He even picks up more friends along the journey, and in the end, they all will prevail vs the diminutive evil villain. This is lighthearted PG-13 fun, with as much humor as "SciFi."

A Frat Party in Space

You get a good idea of the genre just from the title and the book delivers what that title promised with a descent narration (that struggles a bit with the female roles). However, despite the sexual innuendoes and occasional body function humor (eg fart cats), the story is fairly clean and doesn’t really focus on that aspect much (which is a plus for me). Likewise there is the expected drama between the six (6) beautiful “girls” traveling with the everyman hero and freight jockey Johnny, one of which is his jealous co-pilot. There are a few basic plot twists, however, most of the story is fairly predictable … and you can see the obvious inspirations from the various sci-fi and fantasy sources such as the Shannara series (so yeah … expect flying boats that hunt flying whales to be a significant part of the plot). Ultimately there is nothing about this story that should be taken seriously … and if you can manage that, I think you might enjoy it.

I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Weirdly Entertaining 💜

This was a wonderful break from my usual genre. This book was funny and very entertaining. I must admit I didn’t dive into it the moment I downloaded it because, if I’m being honest, I just didn’t think it was for me. A perfect example of why you should not judge a book by its cover lol. Just because it doesn’t have a nice set of abs on the cover doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it. 😊
Logan McAllister is an amazing narrator. His delivery and acting skills really showed in this book, Bravo Logan!
I highly recommend this book!

space adventure with a trucker twist

how desperate are you for more firefly? this fits admirably into the larger category of space adventure stories inspired by the series. what it brings new to the table is a trucker and a world with a pretty believable freight industry, complete with obligatory bill of ladings, seedy restaurants, and not so classy characters. this is what firefly might have been if the whole show was rolled in taco grease and recast with the characters from "the big lebowski". if that sounds like your thing, you'll enjoy this one.

Bro-Dude

Johnny Rockett and the Beautiful Six is an alright story but not for me. It seems like it was written for a bro-dude, maybe a teenage one that is obsessed with breasts and butts. There was also a lot of vomit, poop and fart references.

I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated well.

Modern take on 1950s pulp...in the worst aspects

N.B. I received a free copy of this book via freeaudiobookcodes.com. This felt very much like 1950s era pulp scifi in the worst ways possible. There's far too much focus on the latent misogyny of the main character and the...endowments...of the secondary characters. Most of the humor falls flat throughout the book, but not all of it as a joke here or there hits. The world-building aspects were the best part, but the rest of it doesn't make up for that.
