Publisher's summary

Parents and kids pitted against one another, opposing forces pulling in different directions, both determined to win! Every family experiences power struggles, but these daily tugs of war are not inevitable. In Kids, Parents, and Power Struggles, Mary Sheedy Kurcinka presents real strategies for getting to the root of the emotions and needs that can create daily hassles. But power struggles aren't just about winning and losing. They provide rich opportunities for learning how to deal with strong emotions and for parents and children to solve problems together. Hard as it may seem in the heat of battle, conflict really does present an opportunity to connect with your child.

Such valuable information!

Every parent needs this book. Heck every person needs this book whether you have children or not! If you don’t have children then this book will give you some insight into your own childhood.
But for parents this should be the first book you read! I listen to a lot of parenting books, and this one is now at the top of my list, taking the place of “The Explosive Child”. The Explosive Child is also very good and if you haven’t read it yet, head there next! But start with this one!

Good tools

I liked that this book has a lot of good information and examples, research and statistics. I wish my parents would have known to give me tools for naming my emotions and expressing them in a healthy way. This book is both teaching me that now and given me something to pass to my children.

Extremely Helpful

There is a lot of useful information in this book. It's easy to listen to, and I plan to listen to it over and over so I can better implement the information. This author also wrote the Raising Your Spirited Child book, and I'm constantly wondering how she's able to know so much about my child and my parenting style. Reading her books help me to not feel alone in this world of parenting. I highly recommend this book!

Great Book!

This is a great book & highly recommended. It really helps to put into perspective how children don't know what to do with the strong emotions they all have and helps you help your child. Once you understand your childs emotions & can help them to understand them, you will greatly reduce power struggles as well as general conflict. I recommend this book to all my friends.

Emotional Coaching

This is a practical book with good lessons that can be put to immediate use.

I particularly liked the chapters on recognizing temperaments and personality styles. This book changed how I view power struggles in general and reinforced my parenting communication goals.

I will listen to this again.

Abridged version?

We had a hard copy of this book at home and thought this was the same, but the audiobook seems to be an abridged version. I didn't see that noted anywhere before selecting it. I feel like Audible took me for a ride.
