Publisher's summary

Retirement does not agree with former lieutenant Thomas Mullin. So when he receives a whiskey-stained letter detailing the disappearance of his friend's daughter Abby, he jumps on the first train to Arizona. Folks around town think Abby has gone back to the reservation where she was raised, yet the more Mullin investigates, the more suspicious he becomes. But even his agile mind and gift for deduction can't prepare him for the wild legends of the Papagos or the terrifying truth of what's really in store for Abby.

Critic reviews

"This is at once a stirring adventure, a mystery, and a wonderful portrait of a proud, intelligent black man making his way through a troubled, often hostile world. Highly recommended." ( Booklist)

This is a short quick Western with Thomas Mullins going looking for his friends daughter. I like books about Native Americans. This book was written in a way that it held my interest. I'll listen to other books from this series. There was a good story line and a good ending. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.

Great Story, AMAZING Narration!

Would you listen to Kitt Peak again? Why?

Yes! Loved the story with a strong African American character!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kitt Peak?

I loved all the references to the main character, Thomas, enjoying Sherlock Holmes and sharing a similar gift of deduction.

Have you listened to any of Jay Ward’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have heard other performances by Jay Ward and this is yet another of his amazing performances. Someone once said of him that his voice sounds like honey being poured over gravel and I couldn't agree more. This especially comes out in his narration of the main character, Thomas. Man that was a cool voice! And I am thoroughly impressed with the range of voices he accomplishes in this book as well. I am definitely a big Jay Ward fan! :)

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A man with Thomas Mullin's skills doesn't retire easily.

Unique mystery + awesome characterizations!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! This was my first audible, so didn't know what to expect. Wow! The voice of the narrator, and each of the characters, pulls you right in from the first word. My husband and I listened on a road trip and both completely enjoyed it. Can't wait for the next one!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kitt Peak?

I loved the Thomas Mullin character and his development throughout the book. The mystery had me going til the end.

Which character – as performed by Jay Ward – was your favorite?

Teddy Roosevelt and Thomas Mullin both! I can't just pick one. Also loved the Sherriff.

Any additional comments?

Pick this one up. You won't be sorry.
