Talk radio host and werewolf Kitty Norville has agreed to appear on TV's first all-supernatural reality show. She's expecting cheesy competitions and manufactured drama starring shapeshifters, vampires, and psychics. But what begins as a publicity stunt will turn into a fight for her life.
The cast members, including Kitty, arrive at the remote mountain lodge where the show is set. As soon as filming starts, violence erupts, and Kitty suspects that the show is a cover for a nefarious plot. Then the cameras stop rolling, cast members start dying, and Kitty realizes that she and her monster housemates are the ultimate prize in a very different game. Stranded with no power, no phones, and no way to know who can be trusted, she must find a way to defeat the evil closing in before it kills them all.

Kitties house of horrors

House of Horrors is another of my favorite Kitty installments. I love the premise of a reality show with supernatural guests trying to convince a skeptic. I love that we get to visit with favorite characters Jeffrey Miles, Ariel, Odysseus Grant, and Tina McCannon from previous books. I happened to really enjoy the new faces, too: pro-wrestler and werewolf Jerome Macy; politician and were-seal Lee Pontac; author and skeptic Conrad Garrett; vampires Annastasia and Gemma, and their human Dorian.
The beginning of the book is kind of fun--watching all these various personalities interact with silly games and discussions one might see on a reality show. The scene where Lee shows off his seal to the group just when the skeptic has left is priceless.
Then things get nasty. Turns out the show is just a premise to get everyone in one remote location for a big game hunt, and our group of supernaturals are the game. Far too many of them die for my taste. What I do like is how Kitty keeps thinking, "What would Cormac do?" Using Cormac as a template for predicting and out-thinking the bad guys is an excellent strategy and one Kitty can access easily.
What I didn't care for much in this book is the tension between Anastasia and Grant regarding Roman. Again, this is part of the Romany story line that never really worked for me. Both Grant and Anastasia believe the other is working for Roman. Since Roman isn't really a threat yet, as far as the reader is concerned, this feels like a lot of useless posturing.
Overall, this is my favorite Kitty book after the first four, I think just because of the characters and the premise. This one gets a shiny five from me.

A really good story

It takes a bit to set the game board, but that’s because there are a lot of players to take the measure of, not too mention setting that quintessential vibe of vague unease that seeps in with any good horror story.
Odysseus: “If we’re right, what do we do about it?”
Anastasia: “We watch. We wait.”
Kitty: “Ah, the vampire way. I don’t have that much time… I’m going to poke the wasp’s nest.”
I liked watching how formidable regulars like Kitty and Odysseus Grant approach danger.
There were also some excellent new characters, at least some of whom should pop up in future books.
“What would Cormac do?”
One thing that makes this series cook is that the author isn’t afraid to sacrifice returning characters.
Just because they’ve made it through one book is no guarantee they’ll make it through here.
The second half of this was nonstop action and packs some serious emotional punch to boot,
Bonus points for a series that’s still going strong at book 7.

Would you listen to Kitty's House of Horrors again? Why?
Yes....although I was frightened for Kitty half the time, it was a great story...I think one of the best in the series so far!!Who was your favorite character and why?
Kitty of course...she was totally Kick Butt in this one!!!What does Marguerite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
MG is awesome...one of the best narrators out there!!Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Oh gosh, the whole 2nd half of the book moved me....but when Gemma gets killed by the sun, I cried a little...Grant tried so hard to save her and was just seconds late!!Any additional comments?
This book was one of the best....and I highly recommend this entire series!! Starting #8 now!I loved it, it was awesome!!!

Great series

For those who have never read\listened to the Kitty series I would suggest to not start here. While there is some background given you would get much more starting 2 or 3 books back at the very least.
For those of you who love this series well then you will enjoy this one as well. While nothing really new occurs in the overall story line you do get the sense that pieces are being moved into place. The story itself while being somewhat predictable (even to the characters) is a fun and fast listen and it self contained for the most part.
For anyone on the fence all I can say is this is a fun and entertaining story. The characters are rich and well developed. The story stays interesting and fast moving throughout. The only negative may be the cost per length is not as good as other audible titles but to me it was worth it.
The performance by Marguerite Gavin is great as always. She does an excellent job in all the roles I've heard her. She really adds a lot to the enjoyment of this and other books in the series.
Overall I would recommend this book and I have already purchased the next one.
