Publisher's summary
A resolute spinster. An irresistible rake. An accidental letter . . . and a hopeless muddle in the middle of the London season.
Lady Ludmilla Windmere is mortified. The spinster extraordinaire has fallen in love with her best friend, and that cannot be. The problem? She hasn't met him. Not once. For they have only ever corresponded by letter. When she sets out to uncover his identity, her world shatters. For Addy turns out to be none other but London's worst rake.
Adrian St. Addington is perturbed. The rakehell extraordinaire is developing a marked tendre for a spinster, and that cannot be. The problem? She might be mistaking him for someone he is not. Or, what is worse, know precisely who he is. A depraved heart like his surely cannot fall in love . . . least of all with a plain, outspoken spinster.
Determined to discover the truth behind the man she loves, Lu does what she does best: she sits down and writes a letter . . .

Story
As the London Daily Gazette’s popular gossip columnist, she is extremely adept at sneaking into houses, assuming disguises and overseeing a vast network of spies to ensure she stays abreast of the beau monde’s comings and goings. If it sometimes seems as though she was hiding behind the settee during a particularly fierce quarrel between a husband and his wife, it’s most likely because she was hiding behind the settee during their fierce quarrel.

To escape the duke’s clutches, she’s going to need a little help. Captain Arthur Heywood’s days of heroism are long past. The Earl of Wrexford possesses a brilliant scientific mind, but boredom and pride lead him to reckless behavior. He does not suffer fools gladly. So when pompous, pious Reverend Josiah Holworthy publicly condemns him for debauchery, Wrexford unsheathes his rapier-sharp wit and strikes back. As their war of words escalates, London's most popular satirical cartoonist, A. J. Quill, skewers them both.

DNF due to narrator's lisp
The narrator's lisp is extremely distracting. Every S is pronounced as TH . I have no problem with a lisp in general conversation, however, it is extremely distracting in an audiobook. I'm a third of the way in the book, and it's going to be a dnf for me.

Potential
The story has such a fun premise. The writing could be tighter so that we don’t spend so much time in Ludmilla’s head, which slows down the pace. It’s also convoluted, which makes connecting with characters and following along tricky. All the characters are pleasant enough, and even the hypochondriac aunt has her good moments.
