About this listen

When darkness falls . . . Only true love can save them . . .

Beiste MacDougall has only just found himself as laird of his clan after a brutal attack from Vikings leaves his father slain. On the night of his sire's death, a beautiful woman comes to his castle begging for help, calling upon a vow their clans had made years before. Though he'd rather wallow in his pain, Beiste is tempted by the lass, the secrets she holds, and the chance at retribution she brings.

Lady Elle Cam'béal is desperate to save her brother and her clan from the vile clutches of her Viking enemies. But there is only one man who can help her, a handsome, provocative laird with a beastly temper. When he locks her in a chamber, she is visited by an apparition, and left with a secret that changes her destiny. Elle must figure out a way to accept her fate, but also forge a future of her own choosing.

As battles and treachery rain down upon them, Beiste and Elle find unlikely allies in each other, and a few stolen moments of passion that bring light from the shadows . . .

Contains mature themes.

Narrator needs improvement

The book was ok. It had a lot of extra fluff that made it boring at times. While the narrator had an amazing accent, he was not good. Bad timing on his tones and inflection. Also doesn’t do the female voices well at all. Too fake and childlike. Several times throughout the book I wanted to stop, but wanted to see how it ended.

Good plot.

The story was very good with a twist. Interesting. What I didn’t care for was the narration. Men make the women characters sound like high pitched 3 yr olds. Bring it down a bit. Women do Not sound like this at all. Definitely takes away from placing yourself in their place. As a matter of fact I cringe every time he cited female quotes which didn’t sound any different than the 8 yr old boys. In all where the author is telling the story this narrator sounded more like a journalist telling the nightly news. I have listened to 23 audible books in past month and it is the narrator who has the demanding job of taking you the listener to that faraway place that the author painstakingly worked so hard to place you. This narrator needs more practice.
