Disappointed

Great idea for a story however actions of the characters don’t seem realistic making it difficult to empathize with characters. No main character, protagonist evolution unrealistic. Could have been great story but missed the mark.

If you like Colleen Hovers books, read this one!

I was skeptical because of some bad reviews I’ve seen complaining about Meredith’s parts of the book, saying they are too long… I think they give so much background to the book! Spend a credit and give this a listen! I am completely blown away at the end.

Disappointed

I enjoyed the story until the last 10 minutes. I will not spoil the ending however it was ridiculous and I wish that it would’ve finished like it began. The ending left me completely disappointed.

Incredible!

This story is chilling and incredible! As a true crime fan and murderino, I did figure out part of the ending a few chapters before it was revealed, but that doesn’t make it any less shocking. The first couple chapters with the captive girl are slow, but you have to push though! This story is incredible. I bought it for a vacation and finished it in just over 24 hours. A must read!

amazing!

Finished this audio in 2 days while doing projects around the house and gardening. I only had the audio version so wanted to keep going with chores just so I could keep listening!
The mystery was alluring and the narration was wonderful!

Excellent book..

I thought this was an overall great book. Kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending however, was somewhat disappointing to me. It felt different from the rest of the book, like it wasnt invested, cut short. I'm also left wondering what happened to Cassandra and her family.. And what about the things Meredith never told Josh? Even with a few little gaps, it was a great read!
Loved the narrators as well!

Such a good read

I don’t typically write reviews, but I am easily deterred to not listen based on a couple bad reviews. Don’t take a couple bad reviews and not listen. This is one of my favorites I read this year. So incredible, it is very similar to how Mary Kubica typically writes with multiple narrators and timelines. But I think the story was great, and not a twist I saw coming. I love to guess twists and guess what happened, how ever, I could not have been more shocked by the end.
I LOVED this book

Domestic thriller

Local Woman Missing is about choices, secrets, and betrayal. This is a domestic thriller about two women and a six year old girl who went missing from their peaceful community. Mary sets the scenes leaving readers to wonder at what point this scene will come to fruition in the story. A woman and child are missing and another mother is dead all within days of each other. The neighborhood fears for the safety of their women and children.
As the story unfolds the reader learns along the way the truth that Mary carefully orchestrated. Try am I might I couldn’t figure this one out. Mary out numbered me. What I liked about the way Mary orchestrated the unveiling was how she kept me rooted to the pages. Not once did I stop to contemplate where the story was headed. For that matter I didn’t waste my time trying to puzzle it together. Instead I waited for Mary to share the truth when she deemed it suitable.
The story was comprised of two parts. For the sake of staying on track I had to make notes of each character mentioned in this story. After all, this was a character driven story with lots of moving parts. There are three points of view throughout. I didn’t read this book I listened to the audiobook. It’s an easy intense listen that was extremely informative especially the scenes regarding the work of a doula and delivery of babies.
Characters:
Shelby Tebow. Missing. Jason. Baby Grace. They live in the same neighborhood as the Dickey’s.
Kate and Bee are neighbors with Josh and Meredith.
Meredith Dickey. Josh. Leo. Delilah. Meredith is a doula.
Marty and Cassandra. Piper.
Charlotte-the babysitter
Jeanette-midwife
Dr. Finehold

It reads like a who-dunnit with very limited police procedures. Mostly Kate is the one inquiring about Meredith and Delilah. As Mary adds more characters, the list of potential suspects increases.

Narrators:
Brittany Pressley is a voice actress and singer-songwriter.
Jennifer Jill Araya has narrated over 150 audiobooks.
Gary Tiedemann is an award winning Latinx, bilingual audiobook narrator, voice-over artist and audio producer. I’m going to speculate that he was the voice of Leo.
Jesse Villinsky is an award winning voice actress.

This is a multi narrated audiobook story with all four performing the scenes. The audiobook is 11 hours and 40 minutes. It’s performed in English. I listened at 1.7x speed.
I am unfamiliar with each one of these narrators and have no idea which one of these performers voiced which characters. Despite that I enjoyed each performance.

Mary wrote a compelling story allowing readers to conjure up all types of scenarios regarding the local missing woman. This is one of those story’s that is well received as an audiobook. In fact, I prefer listening to this story rather than reading it myself. Having the performances of these wonderful narrators heightened my experience.

Mary caught me off guard with the outcome. I didn’t see that as the end result. Mary executed a fantastic story by presenting both the past and present beautifully.
Mary wrote an intelligent, compelling, and informative story about choices, secrets, and betrayal. She blew my mind. This was an interesting turn of events. It was a fresh new take on a domestic thriller with an unexpected outcome.

Just read it! So many twists and so well done.

I really really enjoyed this book. It goes back and forth in time (a technique I love) which leaves you guessing “how’d they get there?”. And it is from the POV of different characters. Love that. I felt like near the end dragged a while- and then the finale was very quick. If you like suspense then this is for you. I
