About this listen
Meghan Smith has always been a protective mother. Her baby son, Harry, has a life-threatening condition and is never far from her sight. But on the evening of her wedding anniversary, as she and her husband celebrate in the garden with friends, Harry disappears from his cot without a trace.
In an instant, the perfect life she always longed for is in tatters, her family exposed to interrogation and accusation in the glare of media attention. But none of it gets Meghan answers - or brings back her son.
As her life unravels and suspicion takes hold of her sanity, Meghan begins to question everything she once took for granted. Can she trust her husband? Can she trust her friends? Can she even trust herself?

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Not Bad!
Better than I expected. I enjoyed the narrator’s (British Accent) voice and narration- I thought she did a pretty good job! The story itself was entertaining and kept my interest all the way through. Even several heart stopping moments, which surprised me, and added nicely to the tension buildup. It also kept me guessing, all the way through, as to who “done it”: every time I thought I had it figured out, I didn’t!
I thought the ending was a little silly and, overall, not all that credible of a story on the whole. But, we don’t listen to these kinds of books for accuracy as much as for entertainment and, on that level, I’d say, it is a good and worthwhile listen. Enough so that I will plan on checking out other audiobooks by this author. ☺️

Lost me with the twist.
I enjoyed the book and all the twists and turns but the last twist was too much of a stretch for me. Too big of a leap. Felt like the author was just trying to tidy everything up in a nice little bow.

I was hooked immediately, could not stop listening
Any additional comments?
Really good book - I consumed it in one sitting. Did not figure it out until the author revealed who, what, when and where in the last three chapters. Also, this book held on to my imagination for a couple of days after I finished listening. I just kept thinking about it. Awesome.
The reader was very good. Her pacing and tone are excellent. She does not make herself the centerpiece - she lets the story shine.

Decent read
The plot of this one was pretty decent. The main character's presence at the crime scene was a bit far-fetched, but, it is fiction, after all. This narrator is one of the best around, and that always helps.

Kept me on my toes
Beautifully read by a talented voice over actress.
Parents of a new baby are always overly protective. When a baby is sick, that protection is amplified. Jane Holland has written a page turner and rather than delve into the plot which has been flushed out in other reviews, perhaps you will allow me to voice my reactions.
As Meghan and Jon Smith are celebrating their third anniversary with friends and neighbors, they are unaware their infant son is missing. While reading the story I couldn’t help but feel unease at the relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Smith. She was a caring mother to her son while he seemed only to engage with the child when there was an audience. In addition, Meghan’s fears of her husband’s infidelity frequently crossed her mind.
Tensions mounted throughout the book as Meghan put fourth every effort to locate her missing child. It didn’t seem as though Jon was that anxious to locate his son, and he treated his wife as though she was unstable. As I thought the reveal was eminent, another red herring was introduced until the ending. If The reader can put two into together they might be able to ascertain exactly who is involved in the abduction.
A clever read which kept me on my toes.
