About this listen

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In Lord of Chaos, the sixth novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al’Thor, the Dragon Reborn, builds his army of Light even as sworn enemies--and supposed allies--move against him.

Now ruling Tear, Andor, and Caemlyn, among other nations, Rand is recruiting all men capable of channeling to be trained as his Asha'man soldiers. The warrior Aiel clans have pledged loyalty to Rand, acknowledging him as their chief of chiefs, even though the Shaido Aiel remain a threat.

Split into two factions, the Aes Sedai of the White Tower and their rebel counterparts both seek to ally themselves with the Dragon Reborn. Rand knows all too well the manipulative nature of the Aes Sedai, no matter which side of their internal war they stand upon. But even he cannot predict just how desperate, cruel, and treacherous they can be.

And in the shadows, the Forsaken and the Dark One are conjuring even more chaos...

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

long overdue review :)

I thought i would write a review anyways, even that it is 8 years or so late :D
This book was really really good, loved all the new characters, and loved how many things will happen caused by many things from this book...
already loading the 7th book to listen to it.

honestly the most thing i liked here is the gathering of a lot of the characters with the dragon, and a lot of laughs i had in this book... can't really write down what i liked here, because for those who didn't read the book yet, i don't want to spoil it to you..

after i read the last book i will re-read the whole series again.

Enjoy.

Learning to enjoy Jordan's narrative

First, let me say that Kate Reading and Michael Kramer continue to knock it out of the park with their narration in this book. Phenomenal. There were a few places where certain words were pronounced differently by different characters, but I suspect that had more to do with accents than anything else. All in all, an excellent narration.

As I worked my way through this book, I reflected on how much more I am enjoying this series on my second read-through. I think it has everything to do with my reading matching the pacing and purpose of Jordan's writing. On my first read-through, I was so caught up in what was going to happen next, I rushed through Jordan's narrative garden, never stopping to admire the roses he was cultivating along the way.

Jordan loves to focus on a singular character and delve into that character's motivations and misperceptions of the world. One of the fascinating themes I've noticed is Jordan's determination to convey each character's perspective, flaws and all. He revels in their perspective of the world and what they think is going on - even if they are absolutely wrong. I suspect this is one of the reason's the characters come across so vividly.

Additionally, Jordan has said that when he wrote the Wheel of Time series, he was fascinated with the idea that myths and legends do not match their origin. So there is a continual tension of how people are perceiving the world and understanding what is going on in it with the way things actually are. Fascinatingly, no one has everything right - some are working with more truth than others, but everyone's perspective is flawed. And Jordan continually weaves in how rumors and news spreads, how it is twisted in its conveyance and in the re-telling of stories.

So, I've learned to relax my pace and enjoy the narrative that digs into the different characters. I know over the next few books Jordan really does dig deep in a few characters and even neglect others, but now I think I am adopting the right approach to properly engaging that narrative. On to the next book!

Amazing but trigger warning

LOVE all these books. Just a warning with those with PTSD, large portions of this book gave me serious triggers. I can’t tell you what type of scenes w/o giving away a MAJOR plot spoiler. I forced my way through it and overall it was worth it. Though if I ever reread this series, I might skip it.
