1356 A.D. - It is warring times for England as the Black Prince sweeps his way through France, waging nasty warfare on the population. Masterminding this brutal strategy is the knight they call the Black Angel. Brandt de Russe, Duke of Exeter, is the brains behind the prince’s war machine, a mountain of a man who is as cunning as he is frightening. In battle, no man is his equal.
The Lady Ellowyn de Nerra, granddaughter of the great mercenary Braxton de Nerra, has been sent to London by her crippled father to collect the men he has donated to the Black Prince’s wars in France. De Nerra men are mingled with the Duke of Exeter’s men and Ellowyn is at the dock when the duke disembarks his ships. In her attempt to introduce herself to Brandt and explain her purpose, the duke has little time for the beautiful young woman and mistakes her for a whore. Grossly insulted, Ellowyn threatens the man that all sane men fear.
And so begins the fiery, passionate, and deep love story that transcends families, kings, and two continents, building to the Battle of Poitiers where Brandt is on the front lines. In battle, no man is his equal but even the most powerful of men are prisoners of their own hearts.

This was my very first by this author. One thing that would have definitely made it a five star would have been steamy detailed live scenes they where vague and non descriptive at best. Also the extreme time jumps left you feeling as if you missed stuff. But still despite those things it was a very good love story that kept you listening whether from loving it or just curious at to how it would go.
Very emotional

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If one can get passed the narration, whispering gravelly voice, the story line is quite good. I just persevered..and after a while I was able to ignore the voice problem.Who was your favorite character and why?
The hero because he had to overcome the stereotype of the horrible dark warlord. Even though he was the dark warlord, he was at war and having to unpleasant things in order to accomplish the job. Ellowyn was a spitfire, and a strong woman. She was compassionate and she made me laugh. I love to learn about the history of warring factions. I have gone online to read about England and Wale's history during time the author writes about.Did Daniel Dorse do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes there was a differentiation; however, if the narrator tried to make Brandt's character seem seem big and scary by speaking in a whispered voice, he blew it big time!!!! The first thing that came to my mind was an Italian Maffia character..not at all close to the setting of the story.I will certainly not listen to this narrator again. To expensive to take the chance. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Always, Kathryn Le Veque is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I like the interweaving of the fiction among the history. I think romance is a very hard genre to write, being most every situation has been done and retold. Le Veque adds a nice twist to her stories to keep the reader interested.Any additional comments?
I am so grateful to the author for not always writing her books in a series. I like to be able to read a book that can stand alone, yet incorporate characters and scenes from other books. I have made a chart/map of the years, battles and characters. If you can get passed the narration....

Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was whispery and monotone. Hard to distinguish between the narrative and the characters and hard to adjust the sound. Difficult to listen to.As always, good story.

If you could sum up Lord of War in three words, what would they be?
Long but good.Who was your favorite character and why?
Brandt, he was a man of war. What three words best describe Daniel Dorse’s performance?
Not my favorite. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, it's too long unfortunately.Any additional comments?
I love Kathryn Le Veque's book! But I felt the narrator's performance was at times a little overdramatic, and I really didn't like his female voice for Ellowyn. I liked his British accent, but his older gentlemanly timbre just didn't quite feel right to me. Oh well I guess it's just one of those stories that I preferred hearing in my head vs. the narrator.I liked reading the book better

Would you listen to Lord of War again? Why?
I've been plowing through Kathryn LeVeque's books since I discovered her. Part of the reason was the great voices of the narrators. But this one had me fighting sleep, because he spoke so slowly. I thought he was fighting sleep himself! I stayed with it, however, because I wanted to see what happened.Would you listen to another book narrated by Daniel Dorse?
Probably not.Narrator was a poor choice.
