About this listen

The day was supposed to be Yun-mi's best. It turned into a nightmare? and it isn't over yet.

In a harsh world where survivors live off the scraps of the fallen civilization, Yun-mi had worked her ass off for two years, honing her scavenger skills. She is on the cusp of fulfilling her dreams of becoming the finest Rat the City has seen.

Yun-mi's plans crumble when her mentor is murdered, and she is about to be sold to slavers. In the no-holds-barred game, she's got only one rule: not to give up, and woe to those facing a cornered Rat. Navigating alone between major powers, arrogant clans, and fake friends, she may lack knowledge and finesse, but has determination to spare.

With a hostile takeover threatening the only way of life she'd known, her ambitions expand, and so do the risks. She will carve a niche for herself, but first, someone owes her revenge, and she's coming to collect!
Lost & Found is Book 1 in The E Apocrypha series.

Great Story, Pretty Good Narration

Not gonna lie, I slept on this story for awhile. Got the book and then kinda forgot about it. Started it back up and regretted holding off on it for so long. Author built a fantastic post apocalyptic world with multiple factions, clans with lots of twists and surprises. Loved the multiple povs throughout the story. I will say the narrator was good but her range was limited, most of the guys sounded the same and most of the women sounded the same outside of the Russians and Rajen. Overall enjoyed it and looking forward to book 2.

An interesting book worth a listen

TLDR: Story is good. has inconsistencies but worth giving it a go.

Full review:
the story is interesting and keeps you listening. I will say though that I found it odd that Five Points has such an aversion to technology yet they have guns and clocks, and also would be in a sense illiterate considering their tendency to curse and burn books. Basically an entire civilization that is illiterate. it makes me wonder how their government keeps things straight financially and keeping track of their history as well. I found it difficult to determine how far in the future this book takes place. it's setup in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario after some sort of deviating event occurred, and sometimes it sounds like it might be 50 years in the future, while at other times it feels like it must be a few hundred years in the future. I say this because glass windows are mentioned as being present in the city on occasion, which wouldn't be a thing in the distant future, while other times it sounds like enough human generations have gone by that people before the cataclysm would no longer be alive, which would require at least 70 years to even 100 years to have gone by. so there are some inconsistencies in the story. There were a lot of characters in the story as well, so many in fact that I had difficulties keeping straight each character's story at the beginning. still a good book. I recommend giving it a go!

I enjoyed this!

I normally dislike the bouncing around through disparate POVs because rarely do the story lines combine into a compelling reason for the various characters to meld in an interesting way. But this was a good listen albeit long. I found the characters engaging and getting a view of how others perceived them was interesting. I’m actually looking forward to the next book.

The narrator was generally good although occasionally her characterizations would slip and I either couldn’t tell what was a character’s thought vs. dialogue or another character speaking. There were occasional mispronunciations also that took this listener completely out of the performance.

How good and evil interact in a changed world

As the world changes including the death of over half the population different factions are formed. Some are inherently good while others not so much. The interactions of these factions in this new world are great. As the story evolves, you start rooting for one against another.

As the story evolves, it keeps drawing you in and keeps you reading to see where it will take you next.

Enjoyed the narration of this book as he made the story come alive. Will look for additional books by this pair.
