Publisher's summary

Edward Archer walks right into the den of lioness Charity Stonewright when he sails across the pond to South Carolina to resolve a property dispute for his cousin, the Duchess of Peckham. Astute but bookish, the Englishman isn't prepared for Charity, a strong-willed woman determined to prove the Charleston mansion is hers. And unbeknownst to Edward, Charity has a secret purpose. She is searching for the lost Stonewright fortune, hidden over 60 years ago, somewhere within the walls of the old, decaying mansion. Finding it will mean an end to the grinding poverty she's endured and fulfill her dream to establish herself in Charleston society as a wealthy heiress.

Drawn to the mysterious woman, Edward is increasingly torn between duty and his growing love. But Charity seems determined to keep him at arm's length, stubbornly maintaining her distrust of him.

As the mysteries of the mansion threaten to tear Edward and Charity apart, they must learn to listen to their hearts and discover that the real treasure may be love.

I've been entertained by this series

I've read the reviews of other readers about these stories of the Archer Family series and I can agree that the narrator is not that great, but I really like the basis of the stories. they all have kept me entertained and interest in the stories themselves.

Clean intriguing read

While I didn’t enjoy this story as much as Ms. Corwin’s other titles, it was still a solid listen. The narrator does a fine job with the varying voices and the intrigue keeps you going.

What bothered me is that the ending seemed to be drug out longer than necessary and the speedily wrapped up in the last 15 minutes. It turned out how I expected and I didn’t need the last two hours to tell me that. That said, I’ll still definitely read the next in the series because I’ve enjoyed the others.

Amy Corwin Books

I especially enjoy the Archer Family series! I have listened to five so far, and each have had excitement, intrigue, humor & occasional tears. Romance, of course, but tastefully displayed! Love Amy Corwin! I will be a faithful reader!

WINNER!!!

As usual a wonderful literary ride by Amy Corwin. She includes it all...mystery, romance and humor. Reading them all and you should too.

Neither the book nor the narration was that good..

Okay, so Edward is in town a few days, he might have thought Charity was pretty, once, thought to himself that he would see to it she was never left homeless, and suddenly he was thinking how much he loves her. What? I’m wondering where the heck that came from. That didn’t make a bit of sense.

It was a semi-decent story about who owned the house in Charleston, Charity or the duchess, who sent Edward to look into it. And while he was looking around the big house he found a hidden door in the cellar and found human remains, that they decided had been there at least 25 years.

No sex and maybe one kiss.

As to the narration: This was mostly full of Americans and should have been read by an American, even the duchess in England was American BUT Ruth Urquhart read it and she cannot do an American accent, not a man or a woman.

Meh.

Started slow and didn't really pick up speed. Just an okay read. Needed some excitement and the characters needed some personality.

Narrator just didn’t sell it.

The Narrator was monotone throughout the entire book and did a poor American accent. Quite offensive in fact. Just could not get into the story because of the narrators poor performance. Sorry to be harsh but it was painful.

Thin and absolutely no chemistry

Nice premise but absolutely no reason that H and H are in love. Quite suddenly out of nowhere they are in love. Same for the secondary romance. Decent story but the romance is about as flimsy as every and no steam at all. Really needed a bit of steam. I wouldn’t spend a credit.
