Publisher's summary
A vampire escapes the thrall of Dracula and embarks on her own search for self-discovery and true love in this epic and seductive gothic fantasy from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Hide.
“Fiercely empowering and gloriously vengeful.”—Heather Walter, award-winning author of Malice
Her name was written in the pages of someone else’s story: Lucy Westenra was one of Dracula’s first victims.
But her death was only the beginning. Lucy rose from the grave a vampire and has spent her immortal life trying to escape from Dracula’s clutches—and trying to discover who she really is and what she truly wants.
Her undead life takes an unexpected turn in twenty-first-century London, when she meets another woman, Iris, who is also yearning to break free from her past. Iris’s family has built a health empire based on a sinister secret, and they’ll do anything to stay in power.
Lucy has long believed she would never love again. Yet she finds herself compelled by the charming Iris while Iris is equally mesmerized by the confident and glamorous Lucy. But their intense connection and blossoming love is threatened by outside forces. Iris’s mother won’t let go of her without a fight, and Lucy’s past still has fangs: Dracula is on the prowl once more.
Lucy Westenra has been a tragically murdered teen, a lonesome adventurer, and a fearsome hunter, but happiness has always eluded her. Can she find the strength to destroy Dracula once and for all, or will her heart once again be her undoing?

Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. I had no idea how those words would change my life. Or how they’d changed my life already...until the day the most dangerous man I’ve ever met waltzed onto my farm and left us a death sentence. In an invitation. My younger brother has been chosen for the prestigious, secret magical school hidden within the folds of our mundane world. A place so dangerous, they don’t guarantee you’ll make it out alive. If he doesn't go, our entire family will be killed. It’s the same invitation my older brother received three years ago - the same place where he mysteriously died.

Ana and Reid needed a lucky break. The horrifically complicated birth of their first child has left Ana paralyzed, bitter, and struggling: with mobility, with her relationship with Reid, with resentment for her baby. That's about to change with the words any New Yorker would love to hear—affordable housing lottery. They've won an apartment in the Deptford, one of Manhattan's most revered buildings. Reid dismisses disturbing events and Ana’s deep unease and paranoia as the price of living in New York—people are odd—but he can't explain the needle-like bite marks on the baby.

Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Story
Lorelei Kaskel, a folklorist with a quick temper and an even quicker wit, is on an expedition with six eccentric nobles in search of a fabled spring. The magical spring promises untold power, which the king wants to harness in order to secure his reign over the embattled country of Brunnestaad. Lorelei is determined to use this opportunity to prove herself and make her wildest, most impossible dream come true: to become a naturalist, able to travel freely to lands she’s only read about.

Newlywed Sam has always wanted to be a part of a normal happy family. When her mother-in-law falls ill, Sam dutifully moves her family to Edenic Camillia Island to care for her. The island residents, namely the older women, welcome Sam and her daughter Emma with open arms, endless cocktails, and plenty of superstition. It seems perfect until it’s not. The house next to her mother-in-law’s is creepy—not only that, it’s where Ben’s first wife died. Sam’s teen daughter Emma isn’t interested in spending the summer in Camilia. It gets even worse when Emma starts to see things.

It's just amazing and will leave you feeling satisfied
The three pronged story is really good to keep everything interesting while giving a lot of information, without being boring and too expository. I love vampires and this story was just perfect. it's my first introduction to the author's books and I can't wait to read more!!

Would be good if the novel Dracula didn't exist
This book would be good if Bram Stoker's Dracula didn't exist. I get that the author didn't like parts of Stoker's book but to demonize every character in Stoker's novel just to push this narrative is absolutely absurd. This author basically made all of the protagonists in Stoker's novel sound like pompous jerks, while making Lucy this righteous character all because the author wanted her to "have a girlfriend". She also made it sound like most the heterosexuals in this book and basically all of the protagonists in Stoker's novel, can't be trusted. That the only people to be trusted are in the LGBTQ community. (Side Note: I 100% support the LGBTQ community. One of my best and good friends is a lesbian who read/listened to this book along with me and she even found this book off-putting. And my son, who is a gay man, found the treatment of the characters in Stoker's novel of this author repugnant).
I will say that the performance by the narrators were good. And, like what I said before, this book would be good if Bram Stoker's Dracula didn't exist. It's even absurd to call this "A Dracula Novel" when all you're going to do is defecate on almost all of his characters just to enshrine one. Not worth the credit.

ehhh
Passively talking down on Bram Strokers work is just wild. Did not live up to what I thought, liked some of the plot twists. Was not impressed with making Dracula seem like a dummy. nice cover. just not what I was hoping for.
