Rowan Sinclair has trained for a life in the shadows. As a member of the Guild, she's vowed to mercilessly hunt werewolves or die trying. But when one approaches her, claiming to know her missing father's fate, she decides to do the unthinkable - work with one of the very monsters she's sworn to destroy.
Dean Mason is a man living with a curse, doing whatever he can to keep the beast inside from sating its bloodlust under the light of the full moon. When a chance meeting offers a tantalizing glimpse of a potential cure, he'll do anything to end the nightmare.
Now destiny has united these two predators, each possessing the key to something the other desperately needs. Their partnership will lead to either their salvation or mutual destruction in this urban fairy tale where there's no such thing as happily ever after.

I liked it.

So, let me preface this review with the fact this is not my typical choice of genre. I am generally a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, space opera, and LitRPG fan. I am an avid fan of Rick’s work and, as such, had to give this one a shot. I was not disappointed with this story, given that I wasn’t sure what the genre entailed. I was drawn into Rowe’s character and found myself rooting for her at various points throughout the story.
The writing in this book was great and provided for really well-developed characters. The characters were so well developed that I found myself with a deep-seated anger for one of them in particular. This character was Caine. He was definitely a piece of work and I felt bad each time Rowe had to interact with him.
I am not sure what it is with the books I choose, but if there is a Cooper in a story, the situation never ends well for him. This held true in this story.
With all of that said, I am anxious to find out when book two is due out. I want to know what was witnessed in the final scene of the book. I want to see what the future has in store for Strike’s pack.
For my first journey into the genre, I have absolutely no qualms giving this a 5/5, especially given that I wasn’t sure what to expect. Ruby and Rick have a great series here. Mrs. Kaplan did a great job bringing the characters to life in this series.
A welcome start for my journey into Urban Fantasy
