About this listen

Ilona Andrews invites you to experience the first dramatized audiobook in the #1 New York Times bestselling series featuring the intriguing fantasy world of mercenary Kate Daniels.

When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.

Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up these magical problems. But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta’s magic circles.

The Masters of the Dead, necromancers who can control vampires, and the Pack, a paramilitary clan of shapechangers, blame each other for a series of bizarre killings—and the death of Kate’s guardian may be part of the same mystery. Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she’s way out of her league—but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

This edition also includes A Questionable Client and Curran POV!

great version!

I really liked this adaptation. If you have already read the book, the only thing that may bother you is the pronunciation of names. This made me want to read the whole series again.

Absolutely AWESOME!!!!!

Don't get me wrong I like Renee Raudman. I've reread the entire series 5 times. However I LOVE the graphic audio version!! PLEASE do them all! I would love to rehear the stories with the new voices and the background sounds as well. I'm already imagining Kate meeting her aunt for the first time. I can't wait!!!!

Very good “Audio Play”, Kate and Curran are well voiced

The Kate Daniels series is one of my favorites, Book 1 introduces the series and many main characters it has a strong female protagonist, action, adventure, quest, fantasy romance, horror, murder mystery and slow burn between the love interests (over a few books). This is not the best book in the series, they get even more exciting, it is a great introduction. I listened to the entire series read by Renee so I was worried I wouldn’t like this graphic audio play but the voices are for the most part very well selected especially for Kate and Curran. Most fans of this series would enjoy this. GA really brings an already strong story to life. Nora who voices Kate is very good, spot on for how I imagined she sounded in my head. If they keep up the quality production and great characterization I will get all the Graphic audio books in this series.

Great first impression to the universe!

I was recommended this series by someone close to me and I’m so happy I decided to give it a shot. Not only is the writing spectacular, but the cast really brought it all together. I would’ve enjoyed it anyway but the diverse voices sold me and quite literally brought me into the world of Kate’s Atlanta. Can’t wait to read the rest!!

Here kitty kitty

This story had an interesting concept - magic and technology taking turns being the dominant factor in the world, but I really struggled to get into it.

This story was brought to you by testicles. They are referenced they are kicked they are used as an insult and an invitation, and the bad guy pretty much lives for his.

Fun BUT.......

I enjoy this version, wish they didn't have odd music at odd times! The original version by Renee Raudman is great I love that I can have the book verbatim. They didn't seem to edit much out of this like they do with the Lupi series by Eileen Wilks (I had to stop listening because it made me confused with all they skipped.) The voices are all well done sometimes it seemed like there wasn't really any feeling behind the words which is odd like when Kate thinks she's going to die at the cave in. The Raudman version brought tears to my eyes this didn't seem to a big thing here. And as I said they'd play music that really didn't work or even make sense to what was happening like after the phone call and she goes to find the punching bag it just pulled my attention. Could be I'll enjoy the next book better, we'll see. And if not I can always go play the Raid man version if I don't. However I did enjoy the whole different people playing the roles so we'll see love anything House Andrews does so this is a fun stop until more Innkeepers lol!

It’s GREAT, but so was Renee Raudman

The performance actually deserves a higher rating, probably a 5⭐️—HOWEVER, this a new release with so a kagillion voice actors, so I bought it expecting something WAAAYY amazing.
Then I felt dumb for buying it. Why? Because Renee Raudman already did such a ridiculously fantastical job of first release, it barely changed anything. Of course, Raudman is in a stratosphere of her own, so I don’t even get the point of this.
The special effects didn’t really add that much for me either which was also a bummer. I don’t know why. Sometimes there was music at odd times? Maybe my imagination filled in the groans and oofs of fight scenes?
Both versions are great, and so is the series- it’s a wild world and story but somehow it draws you in and it works.
But I’d just pick one.

Kate was worth the wait

I really enjoyed this version. I think I am now sold on graphic audio. I liked all the characters but Kate was wonderful.

Loved the full cast.

I already own this entire series in the unabridged version, this is my first Graphic Audio book. I love the dual narration of Kate and Curran I honestly think that was the biggest draw for me. The full cast was amazing but these two characters were perfection.
This being my first Graphic Novel the background music was throwing me off because I felt that the music didn’t always match the scene. Yet I was able to move past it and it was a more fully realized experience! I will be looking for more of these.
