Publisher's summary

Are you ready to be rich? If you want to get rich, if you want to be wealthier than you are today, you really need to do only four things. That's right, just four things:

  • You need to make a decent living;
  • You need to spend less than you make;
  • You need to invest the money you don't spend so that it can work as hard for you as you're working for yourself; and
  • You need to protect yourself and this financial world you've built so that a disaster, big or small, doesn't take it all away from you.

Everything else is just window-dressing - the fees and how to avoid them, the advisors and how to hire them, the deals, the scams, the ins, the outs. They are all interesting. Some of them are even quite important. But until you have conquered the heart of the matter, they are all minutia.

The four cornerstones, by contrast, are the meat and potatoes of your financial life. If you do those things today, you'll start getting rich tomorrow. And once you feel set financially, you'll be able to start focusing on the truly important things in life.

Like a colleague giving me good advice.

I listened to this book during my daily morning walk. It was like walking and talking with a neighbor who cared about my future. I liked Jean Chatzky's words and delivery they presented good advice on money matters that I had questions about. I want to send her a thank you for sharing her wisdom and experience.

Excellent

It is okay to want money, It is okay to say that's my money.
and it is never, never too late to start building your nest even in your 40s, 50s....
Jean tells us candidly by taking care of ourselves, we are taking care of those we care most, those we want to protect and be cared for.
I really think that is true.
It sounds as though selfish at first, by taking care of myself really means not letting those kins and family deal with my own troubles and financial details that can cause a lot of emotional, physical effort.
Good to be self reliant, wonderful for being an effective individual that contributes to her society and the world! By becoming self reliant, one sees more in life beyond this material realm, realizing that truly rich, you must first be financially and spiritually self reliant.

Save Your Money

While this book has some ok information, the information can be found in most financial books. I would save your money and invest it into something that will pay bigger dividends. If you need financial info 101, this book will do. If its advanced teaching your looking for, you need to keep searching.
