Publisher's summary

Madness Heart Press is proud to present this revised edition of Splatterpunk Award-nominated author Lucas Mangum's novel about cursed screenplays, vengeful ghosts, and Hollywood death cults. A must-have for fans of B-movies, the revised edition contains the never-before-published story, "Hollywood Blood and Guts" and a brand-new foreword by the author.

Controversial filmmaker William Ward doesn't believe in curses, but he's happy to have the hype surrounding his newest movie, an adaptation of a notorious screenplay with a dark history. As production begins and people start dying, he learns that the curse is all too real and the vengeful ghost haunting the script is only a piece of the puzzle.

At its heart lies a shadowy cult, manipulating events behind the scenes. As dark forces gather around him, Ward and his girlfriend Rachel must find a way to break the curse before it's too late.

Solid Horror Novella

Rellim on 12/31: For the new year you will stop buying audiobooks. Seriously. Stop. No more buying until you make a dent in everything you bought in the last year.

So… I got around my new year’s “resolution” by making this my last purchase of 2021. Then proceeded to totally mess up my grand listening plan and listened to it this week. I really enjoyed the team of Lucas Mangum & Sean Duregger in Gods of the Dark Web, so I was excited for this. Mania did not disappoint.

I loved this combination of psychological torment, gore, and unpredictability. The “cursed script” backstory seems like the avenue to a formulaic horror tale – but Mangum took this story in directions I didn’t expect. Especially when it came to which characters would survive and what is truly behind the curse. I liked getting to know the various players and some of their backgrounds. Though I admit to being somewhat happy that one, in particular, didn’t make it.

Narration:
Duregger does a good job of giving the various characters unique voices and personalities. I like how he handles all the emotional parts. Great listen.

Good classic horror

Before I listen to the book I read a review that said it may cause you to throw up in your mouth. A disgusting prediction and one I thought was a bit dramatic. That is until I read the book and she was spot on. This book is written in the classic horror style but it is not an unintelligent horror story. It is involved and easy to read despite being written for those with an IQ. I absolutely love the narrator and usually love every book he narrates. I think he is awesome! This book is so good I would love to give you a brief summary but there is no way I can do that as it is so involved. Just know it is a awesome book if you love horror then you’ll love this book.

Cursed Script

This book was a quick somewhat horror thriller about William a filmmaker and actress girlfriend attempt to make this cursed screenplay work but runs into catastrophe. There is some gore and sexual situations with a surprise ending with great narration. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

interesting story

Narration was excellent. It was a stretch to get to 3 stars on the story. Desperately needed more development & less language that some will find offensive. It just needed more development.

What a visceral and terrifying tale

Ok first off a small not Of warning. I did have to switch audiobooks a few Times while driving my teens around as there were some scenes I didn’t feel Comfortable listening to with them in the car. That being said, damn what an amazing book! Anytime an author can write scenes that are so detailed and the narrator can deliver it so chillingly well that you actually end up with a bit of bile rising in the back of your throat, you know it’s a great horror story. Mangum and Duregger delivered this feeling quite a few times throughout the tale. A horrifying story of a cursed script, young love, aspiring artists, and a secret. A secret kept so well that the uncovering of it will chill you to your very core. Quite frankly I would love to see some prequel work (short story anthology perhaps) of this dark secret. Get this listen to it. It is a truly great story. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Creepy and gory!💜

It wasn’t scary to me but definitely creepy and plenty of gore. A good storyline with a few unexpected moments. The narration was very good. This is my first book by both the author and narrator and I enjoyed them both.
