An adult Dr. Seuss meets Crocodile Hunter

Bubba (with terrible, robotic acting): “oh no. Look at that giant, angry gowrow.”
I think I just might like this spin-off better than the original Bubba The Monster Hunter by John Hartness. That series started out great, with redneck and juvenile jokes dialed to the max, but lost me as it relied too much on the same tired plots and creatures seen in any number of fantasies. I don’t want another werewolves versus vampires series. I don’t want faeries and elves and dwarves. I want cool and unique monsters and a rollicking good time.

“What I saw … made my skin crawl …”
Each chapter and “book” throws down clickbait in the best satire of ghost hunting shows, or Steve Irwin’s kid-like enthusiasm as he cozied up to dangerous wildlife. Yes, there’s some cussing. Yes, there’s mercenaries getting chomped horror-movie style. But it’s very comicky blood and guts, and really has only redshirt death.

“Mason Dixon: it’s what’s for dinner!”
Aside from the Bubba cameo, the main connection to the original series is the cryptid police agency D.E.M.O.N., which serves as a convenient, and faceless, antagonist. There’s a loose plot involving them as a growing threat, however in the end, it’s all about the fantastical creatures. The gowrows, jilicutes, zigmals, bingbuffers and whistle-wompers made this a super fun ride.

Sonny the Sasquatch

"I should likely not operate heavy machinery." Lines like that, delivered by a Sasquatch.... not something you expect to hear every day, and it made me chuckle. Then he dressed as Chewbacca, and I had to laugh out loud. This was a fun story, and I enjoyed the aspect of hiding cryptids behind a silly and over the top youtube channel. The main character and his friends cared about the creatures they worked with and were actively finding a safe place for them to live, going so far as to protect them from the government and church groups who seemed to alternate between saving and shooting the creatures.

"He's fine. Just taking a nap. He might be bleeding a bit." :-D

Monsters, Friendship and a lot of laughs

I would recommend this series to anyone that is always drawn to books on mythical creatures, folklore or adventure hunting. Mason Dixon not only keeps you on your seat, but gives you the feels and makes you giggle. I loved this, my dad loved it, it seriously is a series for all ages.

If it were a choose your own adventure book, this has the best outcome I could have chosen and sometimes it felt like the best roller coaster.

Great read. Eric Asher never disappoints with his books.

This book was a fun listen for sure.

This book has just the right amount of humor mixed in with action. It did hurt to laugh since I just had neck surgery, but the pain was worth it.

Point Four Four

The book is okay-ish.
Who in the hell says "point four four" and "point four five four" when talking about calibers?
Desert Eagle's don't have clips.
