About this listen

Book 5 in the hugely popular Mates, Dates series.

Izzie is restless and eager to be treated like an adult. So she decides it's time to make some changes. But the new Izzie comes with new problems. First, there is Josh Harper, an older, cute, but wild, boy. Then there is her mother, who is opposed to every part of the "new Izzie". And then there is one night at Nesta's house, when Izzie decides to make cocktails. In the process, Izzie learns a great deal about herself and what it means to be grown up, but not before she's upset just about everyone along the way.

Editorial reviews

This popular series centers on four tight-knit friends dealing with adolescence together. In this installment, the British foursome are celebrating the last bit of summer before starting their 10th year of school. Much of the action centers on Izzie, who has been taking a turn for the rebellious by smoking, drinking, and hanging out with a handsome new boy named Josh. After the girls decide to get belly button piercings, Izzie's mom makes her take hers out, and then reads her diary, to disastrous results. Shirley Barthelmie is great at capturing teenage voices, and her pleasant voice makes this a light, easy listen that nevertheless tackles some important subjects.

Critic reviews
