Publisher's summary

Melissa Payne, bestselling author of The Secrets of Lost Stones, returns with another haunting and hopeful novel about redemption, the power of memory, and a woman’s will to reclaim her life.

My name is Claire. I’m thirty-six years old. It’s September. I know what I’m doing and why I am here...for now.

Ten years ago, Claire Hines lost her unborn child - and her short-term memory - following a heartrending tragedy. With notebooks, calendars, to-do lists, fractured pieces of the past, and her father’s support, Claire makes it through each day, hour by hour, with relative confidence. She also has a close-knit community of friends in the remote Alaskan town where she teaches guitar to the local children. It’s there, in the reminders.

As determined as Claire is to regain all that’s disappeared, she’d prefer to live without some memories of her before life - especially those of her mother, Alice, who abandoned her, and Tate, the ex-boyfriend who broke her heart.

But when Alice and Tate return from the past, there’ll be so much more for Claire to relive. And to discover for the very first time. Through healing, forgiveness, and second chances, Claire may realize that what’s most important might not be re-creating the person she was, but embracing the possibilities of being the person she is.

Very Different!

I wasn’t sure I was gonna like this book but I found the content very different and interesting, and that kept me reading to see just what was going to happen.
What a difficult amnesia she lived with! I don’t wanna give out any spoilers, but it is a good listen and read!

Very strong storyline

Audible needs to allow a 10-point rating system. While this is not a 5-star (only my favorite books of all time are rated a 5), it is also more than a 4. The strength in this book lies with an incredibly creative storyline. The author then weaves the many threads of this story together in a manner similar to that of a champion chess player - each move thought out all the way through to the end. Fascinating premise, vey well done.

This is a fantastic book. The characters are great & it shows the family dynamics that are realistic & believable. This is one of those books I could read again and learn something new I missed the first time. Definitely a 5 star review from me.

Definitely worth the read!

I truly enjoyed this book, and was into the story very quickly, which is not always the case, and enjoyed the storyline until the very end. Bittersweet, but with interesting twists and turns and an endearing quality that carries the whole novel. Definitely worth the listen!

Sweet story

What a sweet novel. This story, while not exciting or thrilling, kept me engaged by touching my heart. The characters were so endearing, and they dealt with their struggles by summoning patience and grace. This is a story of challenges and forgiveness. The narration was perfect; especially the voice given to little Maree. The method of slowly bringing the reader’s knowledge up to speed with the thoughts and experiences of the main character Claire, was brilliant. I loved how, although she could not remember anything short-term, her emotions did evolve as if she remembered. It was very thought-provoking to ponder that we have embedded feelings about people based on our experiences with those people even if we do not remember those experiences.

Just as amazing as her debut

Melissa Payne can WRITE, and this was a brilliant follow up to her debut. The audio is amazing, the story is engrossing, and I wanted to bawl my eyes out at the end. This is a must read!!
