Publisher's summary

Adamantly opposed to commercial whaling, Miranda happily trades her fin for human legs when she's given the opportunity to work as a maid for a man in charge of public relations for a large Japanese whaling firm. Miranda soon finds out that she loves pedicures, favors bikinis over clamshells, and that she's a natural disaster when it comes to human housework.

There's so much about the human world she doesn't understand. Why does Justin Lockheed, her handsome boss, make her heart race and her knees weak? And just what is she supposed to do when it comes time to choose between advancing her cause and destroying his career?

Enjoyable

A cute, well written story. The problem with short stories is that in trying to fit so much into a “short” story, so much more is ignored or neglected. That said the characters were as well developed as space permitted and the same can be said for the story line. As I own both the Kindle and the Audible books I read along as the narrator read the book and I have to say the narrator did a good job. My first read from author Caroline Mickelson and I enjoyed it.

Super cute

I recovered this book complementary in order for an honest review. I thought the book was super cute. Had a nice little plot. Was well thought out and executed. A few places had a few places I thought stretched it too much. But it worked. It's lite and it's short. There is no sex no steamy scenes leading up to it either. Just sweet. So if your looking for all that stuff this is not it. On the plus side it also had no bad language and I could listen to it with my children in the room.

Short, Sweet, And Clean!

I listened to Mermaid Inc. in between my longer audios, and this lighthearted story was the perfect length to listened to in one sitting.

Miranda the mermaid is on a mission to save whales. First, she has to drink a potion that will change her fins to legs. Second, she has to infiltrate Justin's home and pretend to be his housekeeper, while his regular housekeeper is away. Third, she has to get information on one of Justin's clients who's in the business of whaling to put a stop to it. It sounded easy enough to Miranda, but she soon learns housekeeping isn't her forte, or cooking, or doing laundry. Not to mention, her attraction to Justin. Good thing she has Goldie the talking bird to help her out, and guide her.

Justin's temporary housekeeper isn't anything he expected, in fact she's a disaster when it comes to doing chores, but she brightens his day. When she offers to help him with his newest client because of her in-depth knowledge as an oceanographer, he agrees. He doesn't know her real agenda, but when he things he's lost Miranda he will do whatever it takes to get her back.

Carly Robins did a fabulous job with the narration. I loved Goldie's character!

Overall, for a short, clean story, it was well written. I won a copy of this audiobook from the author.

The Little Mermaid with a Cause!

What about Carly Robins’s performance did you like?

I thought she did an excellent job in telling the story and differentiating the characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Girl meets boy, saves whales.

Any additional comments?

The Little Mermaid with a Cause! This was a fun, quick listen. It's full of humor and makes an important point about taking care of our wildlife and the environment. Miranda's on a crusade to save the whales from harvesting. It would be an awful thing to lose the magnificence of whales in our oceans, as well as all the other creatures and plants that live there and on land.

One of my favorite characters in this book was the Macaw who talks, but who only Miranda can understand. Others just hear squawks. He's there to help teach Miranda how to navigate human life, and he's got an attitude, a little like Iago in Disney's Aladdin. Miranda was likable enough, if a bit ditsy. And the character of Summer was totally unnecessary. She did little and was just a device to get Miranda and Justin together. Overall, a bit more character development would have been nice, but it wasn't horrible.

There were some small things that bothered me. The mermaid, Miranda, once she gets legs and comes on land, knows what shirts and pants are, but not what a tie or keys are? Or formal dresses? Those are odd things. How would she know any of them? Perhaps her half-human, half-mermaid friend, who lives under the sea, told her some things but not all? It's not elaborated on, but it struck me as odd. Also, she never just has ankles, it's always ankle bones. In my mind, I kept seeing her skin pulled back, so the bones were exposed. Not the right image to go with this light and fluffy tale.

Miranda finds humans eating seafood objectionable, even going so far as to empty her employer's freezer of bags and bags of shrimp, crab, and other sea originated delicacies. It made me question what, as a mermaid, Miranda and her sea companions ate. Do they live exclusively on seaweed? IT would have been nice to have more insight into her diet. It also made me wonder how a guy who is constantly worrying about keeping his job can spend so much money on food.

Overall, this was a light, enjoyable listen about a guy who turns green at the thought of the sea or its creatures and a young, energetic and dedicated mermaid who wants to live on land, and it touched on an important environmental point. Like I said, The Little Mermaid with a cause.

I received this audio book as a gift from the author. Her generosity in no way influenced my opinion.

Almost the littlest mermaid

This cute story is something like the Disney story line the "littlest mermaid" Miranda comes from a life of privilege and wants legs so she can experience life on land. She sold her uncle and mer council on a save the whales campaign.

Carly Robins narrates this cute story and excellently gives humor to the macaw parrot. She doesn't overdo it or try to be Gilbert Godfrey in Aladdin but makes you laugh at this book. Definitely could be sold as a YA type story also.
