Jack Delvaux is alive

Summer Redding thought the blindingly handsome jock who'd loved and left her years ago had died in the Washington Massacre. She grieved for her lost golden boy as the rest of the country mourned their dead - until she comes home to find a very alive Jack Delvaux waiting for her with a devastating secret that turns her life upside down.

No longer the carefree man he was in his youth, this Jack is dark, hard, and dangerous, a 15-year veteran of the CIA hungry for answers - and hungry for her. The rich, good-looking charmer who broke her heart once before would have been easy to resist, but this man, this powerful man? Summer needs him, and he knows it.

When Jack's mission uncovers evidence of government involvement in the massacre - and plans for another attack - he's primed for revenge. But he has more than vengeance to live for now, and when Summer's life is threatened, it's nearly Jack's undoing. Someone taking shots at his woman? That's a dead man walking.

Excellent story!

This audiobook ties up all the loose ends about the Deveaux family. When journalist Summer comes out of Hector Blake’s funeral in DC she looks straight into the eyes of someone she was once intimate with and thought had died- Jack Deveaux! Trying to figure out what to do after he bolts and runs off, Summer is shocked to find him in her apartment. They talk and some explanations were made about why Jack was hiding as a homeless street vet. When they go together to Blake’s apartment, someone else comes to Summers place to leave a very deadly surprise. Luckily they are warned before Summer goes home and Jack takes her to his safe house. As the heat picks up on the people who are trying to kill Summer, Jack starts to see the woman he missed and vows to protect her. The narration was excellent!

Midnight Fire

Summer and Jack have a past that just caught up with them. He was hiding the fact that he survived the bombing that killed but all but his sister, and him. At the latest funeral Summer spots someone who looks like Jack. But that can't be right, he is dead. Or is he? Now he is back, trying to stop her from telling all that she has seen him. Until all those who plotted his family's demise he needs to keep her close. The suspense with this one is the last of this series. So there is plenty of drama and action.

Not enough romantic interaction

This book had a good storyline but it is a romantic story so I would have liked more romantic interactions. Something was off with this Midnight story. Midnight, Bud, Sr. Chief were tough guys but they had real passion and great romantic interaction with their women. This was just no there for this story.

No Small Feat

Lisa Marie Rice's story lines travel on a global scale. This author does nothing on a small scale. Her explosions are huge, the intrigue is levels deep and the chemistry between the main characters is worthy of fireworks.
Betrayal, resurrection, catastrophic threats and second chances pull in the whole team into a web of intrigue. This book is not for the faint of heart.

Disappointed

I've read all books in this series and this story is more doom and gloom than I expected. Too many major catastrophies for my liking. And the narration of the female carachter is really bad. The character is supposed to have some sort of accent but it is not well done by the narrator. Gave up after 6 hrs....

Not LMRs finest work and what was ok was ruined for me by the narrator.

I am a huge fan of Lisa Marie Rice. Her over the top alpha H who become putty for the right woman just do it for me when I want a guilty pleasure read. However the H/h in this story never worked for me. I just plain didn’t like Summer. That has to do with character development. It was choppy and didn’t resonate at all. The narrator can make or break a book for me and this one just drove me crazy. The super weird accent she gave Summer was so distracting it derailed the book. The male voices were not well done either. Nick’s was way too feminine and partway through he developed an accent and then lost it.

The story didn’t work for me on a couple of levels. I didn’t believe a sex driven 22 yr old who wasn’t that great in school would come from the rock solid loving family, nor would he be snapped up by the CIA. I didn’t believe someone with Summers childhood history would react in some of the situations the way she did. The character development wasn’t on par with with I expect from LMR and I wondered at times who wrote the story.
I made myself finish it by reading, but will definitely not be back to listen or read again. A shame because I love to revisit LMRs stories each year. Not this one!
