A good legacy of innovation

This book provided detailed biographical information on former player and basketball coach Mike D’Antoni. Author Clayton Goeffreys wrote on D’Antoni’s life and legacy on the game of basketball. D’Antoni is responsible for the quick turnaround of the National Basketball League’s big man game to a smaller sized perimeter shot game. Years into Kobe Bryant’s career, the Laker had maintained the limelight; meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns, traveling with superstar Steve Nash and rookie champion Amare Stoudmeire, fired back at defenses with the pick and roll game leading with offense as defenses plummeted.

This book provided depth into the public life and career of Mike D’Antoni. It described his early career achievements until his days as an innovative European champion, and then on to his recent coaching roles in the NBA. His preference for an up tempo game inspired a norm in the NBA. You just have to be quick and release. He firmly believed in the three point jump shot as a good contributor to the game. His coaching experience has allowed teams like the Phoenix Suns and the Houston Rockets to achieve great plays. He has coached star players Russell Westbrook, James “The Beard” Harden, Carmelo Anthony, and even point guard Jeremy Lin.

His innovative philosophy is to win at the perimeter and away from the rim. Conquering doubts and confusion, his players have allowed his style of playmaking to flourish on to a new generation. This book provided highlights into the team he has coached and the development of their playing style. The author compares and contrasts player roles and their cooperation with D’Antoni’s team guidance to foster a complete authorship. Clayton Geoffrey’s is no doubt an authority figure.

The book is not long and the audio version excels in the narrative and audio production. It is narrated by storyteller Eric Burgher. Mike D’Antoni has led a challenging career and brought a significant period of change for many players. and about at a later period of time is recommendable. With new players on the court and former player contributions to follow D’Antonis lead, teams can foster growth and innovate through his inspirational journey.
