Humanity’s time is done.

A modern ice age has all but stamped out human civilization and left the Earth nearly uninhabitable. For Ira Hartman and the dysfunctional band of survivors that surround her, all that’s left of the old world are ghosts trapped beneath the still forming ice sheets.

Living in retrofitted tunnels beneath Riverside, California, scrounging for food, supplies, and desperately trying not to kill each other, things could be worse; but when an accident causes the generators powering their shelter’s heating system to be destroyed, hope seems to have run out.

That is until Ira discovers a strange heat signature in the San Bernardino mountains, and it leads to a secret military research facility housed deep within the mountain.

At first, it seems like the perfect shelter. Plenty of rations. Water. Warmth.

Then they discover the remnants of horrifying experiments. Corpses, strapped to operating tables, horror etched on decomposing faces, experiment rooms filled with strange machines and occult symbols, and the logs of a raving lunatic. The unmistakable feeling that something is watching them, waiting in the cold, tubular concrete tunnels, in the shadows.

What Ira and the others don’t know might just kill them.

I can't express how much I loved this book. I'm a huge Lovecraft fan and this fits so well with the cosmic horror, and has many references to the lovecraft mythos. I also am so happy to get a near future story, with already another cosmic disaster which feeds the desperation and madness from people who want to survive. I highly recommend this book to everyone. The narration was great as well. I always thought the upbeat of the narrator voice announceming the chapter number was nice right after a traumatic chapter, and just felt right. The narrator also did great to have the tensioned moments feel that way with you being there. Definitely give this a shot.

I'm a big fan of DEAD SPACE, SYSTEM SHOCK, and RESIDENT EVIL to a lesser extent. Basically, stories about how you arrive at some place and discover that everything has completely gone to crap with mad science at fault. It's a great premise and one that forces the protagonists to try to figure out what happened before making their escape. However, Eric Malikyte takes it one step further with, "What if the horrible place is one you can't leave because there's no chance of surviving outside?" Throw in a bunch of H.P. Lovecraft bits and you have the Walking Dead meets Fallout meets Cthulhu.

The narrator did a fantastic job. No notes.

It was a bit predictable, very Lovecraftian. It's worth a listen if you're really looking for something Lovecraft. I'm glad I used a credit and not cash to get it though

Why aren’t there more lovecraftian cosmic horror books written like this? They all seem to be short story collections! This blends cosmic horror with some new weird and it is excellent!

Kudos to the author and narrator. The story was original and well written, while the narration did well in promoting it.

I loved it, the lovecraft feel with the ever since of death from every direction makes this a shocking and all around great story. 10/10 would listen to again... and I am.

Lovecraftian madness is alive and well in MINDS HORIZON. Malikyte has done an exceptional job of renovating H.P.'s sense of doom and interdimensional horrors in a post-apocalyptic world that seems like it could happen in just a few decades. The southern California setting was made more real with familiar landscapes and settings.
The characters are believable but difficult to like due to some serious personality flaws which makes them real.
My major complaint was with the narrator or perhaps the director who chose odd times to speak in a characteristic voice when describing narrative points that seemed to me unnecessary. It was jarring at times.
That said, a truly fun horror fiction story with a little science fiction tossed in.
I understand that this is the first of a three part series. i will follow the rest of the books when they are released.

Starts off with a bang! draws you right in and you're in the rabbit hole.. then the storyline begins.. character building and interactions are fun, and feel just right. without the first chapter, youd think it was your average climate apocalypse kind of thing.. and slowly.. the cosmic horror is threaded in. the description of the cosmic horror landscapes and creatures really give you a great vision of what the author intended and lets your imagination run. story was complete and didnt leave me hanging. overall very enjoyable experience. If you are into horror, lovecraft, dark fantasy this could be a winner for you. i will definintely listen a few times more...... "bye leena it was so nice talking to you...."
