Publisher's summary

Tips for monster hunting:

  • Check the deepest part of the ocean. Or let someone with a submarine check it for you.
  • Order a monster egg online. Make sure it won't hatch before it arrives.
  • Don't. What are you, crazy? You don't need to look. The monsters will find you.

Monstronomicon is a collection of 100 stories from around the world. These aren't your everyday werewolves and wendigos either. Each story is told by the survivor of an encounter with a unique and mysterious creature more wild and varied than you can imagine. This audiobook has something for everyone with a dark mind, so listen now to find the perfect monster for you.

Some monsters are quirky and friendly, while others are apocalyptic behemoths crawling up from the depths. Some stories are heartwarming, funny, or profound, while others are a bloodbath.

Lots of great stories

Really enjoyed several of these stories. The narrator is very monotone. However, easy to listen to.

good stories narration could use some work

for the most part the stories were engaging and if Taney however I found some of the narration off-putting. the narrator tins to use goofy voice to distinguish one character from another and it doesn't seem all that necessary.

HERE THERE INDEED BE MONSTERS!

So far I'm maybe 1/4 of the way through and I am really enjoying these tales. The story of Granny Decay is my favorite so far. I can actually picture the demented beast in my mind!

Really enjoyed this!!!

I really enjoyed this one and highly recommend it. It's an easy follow read and the narrators were just as good. A few storage were too short but enjoyable nonetheless. I'm hoping to find another like this!

I really wanted to like this.

I really tried to like this collection. Out of the 100 stories maybe 20 were ok. Most of them felt unfinished and half-baked. A good workshop would have turned most of these into great reads. I will give the narrator, and the 4 voices he used, props for sticking it out.

Ummm...WTF

I guess that I should start off with the only positive critique I can offer. A few of the stories (7 to be exact) were fairly decent. Some even managed to be somewhat creepy.
Now that we have that out of the way...
In the interest of time, I'll stick to my top 3 complaints about "Monstronomicon"
1. Fire the editor! The book runs a little over 26 hours. Of that, about a hour is repeated passages ( I'm almost not exaggerating).
2. If you are going with 1 narrator to read all 100 stories, then go wirh someone who can at vary the tone and pitch of his voice. By about the fifth story I felt like I was listening to a bee hive rather than a man reading a scary story.
3. Almost all of the stories were terrible. Imagine reading something written by an especially underwhelming seventh grader and you'll be in the ballpark.

Not worth the time.

This anthology suffers from too many poor quality stories and poor editing. The readers voices were limited and distracting.

Terribly Boring

The narrator and the stories are soooo boring. I could listen to this before bed to help me fall asleep! I decided to give it a chance despite the other negative reviews and that was a big mistake. I would not recommend this to anyone

I wanted to love this....

This title is right up my alley and I truly wanted to love it. Some of the stories were really good, I think. However it took me SSOOOO long to get through it because the narration was the absolute worst. I usually devour books whether reading or listening but this book took me weeks to finish because sitting through more than half an hour was a harrowing experience. I would love to see this one redone by a better narrator... I will buy it back if that happens, but as is, I'm going to return it, right now.
