Publisher's summary

After saving the world from his fiendish father's side of the family, Cal Leandros and his stalwart half-brother Niko have settled down with new digs and a new gig - bodyguard and detective work. And in New York City, where preternatural beings stalk the streets just like normal folk, business is good. Their latest case has them going undercover for the Kin - the werewolf Mafia. A low-level Kin boss thinks a rival is setting him up for a fall, and wants proof. The place to start is the back room of Moonshine - a gambling club for non-humans. Cal thinks it's a simple in-and-out job. But Cal is very, very wrong. Cal and Niko are being set up themselves - and the people behind it have a bite much worse than their bark.

A new narrator

Where does Moonshine rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Have you listened to any of MacLeod Andrews’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Steal Hart which was narrated by the same person. This book was done so well that I didn't realize that they had the same narrator. He gives the craters their own voice allowing them to be a distinctive presence through out the, never reminding a person of other books that Andrews has narrated.

Any additional comments?

The change in narrators is the best thing that could have happened for the audio versions of this book series. I disliked the narrator for the last book Nightlife.

I like the new narrator

I think one of my favorite things in this series is the creative cursing and I'm not referring to traditional swearing. The brothers get a little angsty but I enjoy their bond. There are strong supporting characters and an interesting plot. MacLeod Andrews is a solid reader with easily distinguished character voices.

Second Audio Book Is A Good Start

The narration was great. Story a little confusing but by the 4th chapter I started to get the idea.

wonderful voicing

This book was well read with a narrator that really brought out the emotions and individual voices of every character. A wonderful dark urban fantasy that is thrilling to the very end. A good mix of family loyalty, sarcastic humor ,and the dark terror of the supernatural.

Please learn how to pronunce Auphe...

The Cal Leandros series is my favorite one. I still love the story but I had issues with this narrator. I liked the previous one better. I liked some of the voices he did but I can't get over how he pronunces Auphe. Drove me crazy every time.

GRRRR

Would you try another book from Rob Thurman and/or MacLeod Andrews?

no

What was one of the most memorable moments of Moonshine?

grrr the new reader mis-pronounces words that the first reader (Auphe esp) got right. Auphé is ***annoying***

How did the narrator detract from the book?

every time he'd use the wrong pronounciation I wince and growl. my dog is so confused

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I love the book, but the annoyance from the reader detracts

Any additional comments?

Love Cal & Niko, don't like MacLeod Andrews

Good, solid writing, and GREAT narration

Dyed-in-the-wool urban fantasy fan here. I've chewed my way through Dresden, Sandman Slim, Bobby Dollar, the Iron Druid, and many more that aren't as good, before stumbling across the Leandros brothers. Their adventures compare quite favorably with those (perhaps) more well-known series, with nice doses of epic battles of good vs. evil, scary monsters and super freaks, imaginative takes on age-old supernatural legends, a little romance, a little comedy, and lots of witty banter and a great, nicely fleshed-out, very real-feeling relationship between the brothers, Cal and Niko.
Of course, it doesn't hurt to have the ever-fabulous MacLeod Andrews narrating. He gives perfect voice(s) to the Sandman Slim books and Sanderson's Steelheart series, among many others; I'm thrilled that Audible has gotten him to perform books 2-9 of the Leandros books. The narrator of book 1 wasn't dreadful, but not great either; Andrews is pitch-perfect in tone and has created voices for the many human and non-human characters that are always right on the money.
It's a happy prospect to be spending a good part of this winter with the Mac Leod Andrews and the Leandros boys. Wholehearted recommend!

Good story, very interesting

I really enjoyed the story, the only problem is the main characters are almost too grim. The only emotions that really come across are cynical or angry for the MC, stoic or concerned from his brother. The parts of the story where they could get excited, or even should be so, they aren't. Some relief from the gravity would have made a nice counterpoint. Otherwise, the story is interesting and the world building is great. Very clear imagery, without being too wordy about it.

The narrator is great, I love how he does the wolfy and monsterous voices.
