About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before

'Holy Wood is a different sort of place. People act differently here. Everywhere else the most important things are gods or money or cattle. Here, the most important thing is to be important.'

Cameras roll, for the first time, on the Discworld when alchemists discover the excitement of the silver screen. But what is the dark secret of Holy Wood hill? As the cliches of Tinsel Town pour into the world, it's up to the Disc's first film stars to find out . . .

Join Victor Tugelbend ('Can't sing. Can't dance. Can handle a sword a little') and Theda Withel ('I come from a little town you've probably never heard of') as they battle the forces of evil and cinema advertising.

They're about to discover that the magic of the silver screen might be powerful enough to put an end to, well, everything.

The Discworld novels can be listened to in any order but Moving Pictures is a standalone novel.

Jason Isaacs is brilliant

The title says it all. I hope he does more books. These new productions have been very satisfying

One of the best audio books ever

Jason Isaacs gives an inspired performance making this hilarious and fantastically written book even more oomph. Or “ook”? Bill Nighy’s footnotes are the perfect embellishment. Loved it.

Fantastic performance of a so-so book

Performance was excellent. The only downside is that this is one of Pratchett’s books that are just for jokes and have little substance outside of them. Victor is a surprisingly bland protagonist and while the book has some great scenes it mostly exists to make old Hollywood jokes, still a fun time and important for introducing Ridcully, Gaspode, and Ruby but definitely in the lower half of the series

wonderful narration

the book really comes to life. Pratchett's gallery of characters all get their unique expression. the writing is brimming with jokes and references, embedded in a story that holds a mirror to our dreams of fame.

Excellent narrator!

As always Terry Pratchett delivers an excellent piece of storytelling. What I really enjoyed was the narrator. Really excellent performance, every character had a unique voice and accent. Just beautiful beautiful work by Jason Isaacs.

lovely production of a Pratchett classic

What I love about this book is how many of the Discworld's minor characters have origin moments and background context for the ecosystem of relationships between books.

Glorious

A tale I’ve known for a very long time, told in typically wonderful Pratchett fashion. The narration? Perfect? So many chuckles in public places. 😂

Great performance by Jason.

Love Jason Isaac’s reading this. He sounded like he really enjoyed the story, could even hear him chuckle a few times at the jokes.
