Tarryn Fisher (here on out known as TF) wrote a letter to her readers regarding this book that states "I want my words to be jagged pieces of mirror that you can see yourself reflected in." The words in this book are like bullies who know just where to poke to make it hurt. The way she writes makes my heart hurt, my head hurt, my eyes hurt, all the way down to my toes. I know who this Senna is, I've met her before. I know her need for silence, and how she cuts to feel, and how calming a colorless room can be.
"Life is too short to hide your wrongs. So I hide myself instead." (Senna)
TF's letter also states, "My books are a call to women who have been doubled over by heartache, bound by boredom, captives of a past that will not let them go, victors of a past that tried to kill them." I fear she has a large audience if this is who she is writing for. And her words do call - they call for introspection, suspense, heartbreak, and a well-crafted storyline that begs for every emotion one can imagine.
"To know who a person really is, I believe you have to know first, who they were." (Dr. Elgin)
Senna has faced far more in her life than any woman should ever have to live through. So much so that many readers will be able to empathize and relate with her journey on some level. TF speaks the truth regarding these experiences with such poignant descriptions that leaves even those who have never experienced these awful events a true grasp on what a survivor might feel.
"What hurts far worse than the physical attack is the darkness it injects into you....Someone else thought that you were nothing, so you assume that everyone else will as well." (Senna)
And while TF's modus operandi really isn't about the HEAs, I can't help but to be sucked into her words and hope for the best.
"He kissed me with color, with drumbeat, and a surgeon’s precision. He kissed me with who he was, the sum of his life—and it was all encompassing. I wondered what I kissed him with since I was only broken parts." (Senna)
The second I picked up this book, I was a goner. I was sucked in. I couldn't put it down. I needed desperately to know how it ended, who the zoo keeper was, and how the hell Senna came to be held captive. I can imagine this book isn't for everyone, but for me, it was just perfect.
I was hooked, sucked in, couldn't put it down!

What did you like best about Mud Vein? What did you like least?
I was mostly intrigued by the story line. Overall though I disliked the character. She wasn't realistic in my mind and her inner monologue kind of drove me nuts. I think this was compounded by listening to it aloud.Would you ever listen to anything by Tarryn Fisher again?
Probably! You can tell she knows how to create a compelling story. It was just this particular character I found disagreeable. What didn’t you like about Simone Lewis’s performance?
Felt kind of monotone. If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No.I wanted to like this!
