Publisher's summary

The cops at the 43rd called it the unsolvable case.

USA Today and Amazon two-million copy best-selling author Blake Banner is at his best in this mystifying crime series!

October, 2010, Sally Jones had been stabbed in the heart in her apartment on Commonwealth Avenue, in the Bronx. Her coat was on the back of her chair. Her shoes were beside her bed, her clothes were neatly folded, and she was dead under the sheets.

The killer had removed Sally’s hands and feet and departed, leaving no trace—except the dismembered body.

October, 2019, as the national media focuses on the 43rd’s unbroken record in cold cases, Detective John Stone, head the unit, decides to tackle the case.

But he and Dehan are soon to discover that this is a case like no other: who were the visitors who came to see her before her death? What was their connection with the shadowy Sacred Brotherhood of Christ? And did her brother, Captain Ewan Jones, seek to help her—or murder her? It soon begins to look like this is indeed the case they will never crack.

And what, Dehan wants to know, happened to the Mustang?

Wish they would release the remaining books…

…in the series.

The Death Cold Mystery Series is probably one of my favorite procedural series. Each new book is fresh and has a unique and interesting cold case mystery to curl up with. Each book can be listened to as a standalone however I personally like listening in order. The two protagonists are at this point husband and wife but when the series began 20 books ago they had just met.
I also like that this author really knows how to give the endings a really good twist. Just when you think the case is solved and everything is all wrapped up with a fancy bow one of the protagonists will rip that bow right off and expose the real killer and the real reason behind the murder they had just solved.
This book appears to be the murder of a “loose woman” who had fallen from grace with the super religious group she was raised in. The group does order her removal but there’s one little piece that keeps bothering one of the detectives. If you choose to listen to this book (and I sincerely hope a few people will take my advice) pay attention to that section inconsequential little detail.
Adam Grupper does an outstanding job narrating.
