Review of audiobook borrowed through Audible Plus.
Possible Spoilers:
I just couldn’t see former Trooper and ex-con Travis and his background being this great matchup with Maggie the Mayor. I kept getting an impression of Branding Iron being a small town with a minuscule police force, then an impression of big city budget meeting and other situations that don’t fit.
I live in a small city of approximately 39k but our mayor and council members are only part time. It does not compute. Just because it’s fiction doesn’t mean it doesn’t make a better story by having the world building fit together logically.
Winton has a pleasant enough voice and it’s dry enough to fit Texas, but it just doesn’t fit a romance for me.

Overall I really liked the story. It was unique, heartfelt and engaging. There is an underlying romance but it doesn't really take center stage. The characters are well developed and the dialog is genuine. My problem is Maggie's opinions on morality... who she believes to be right in the rift between father and son is not inline with my thinking. During that part of the story I found myself very frustrated. It also tainted my view of the FMC, mayor Maggie. But all the other moments surrounding that are almost enchanting.

The narration is terrific. I do recommend the book.

This is a story with the heart of Christmas 🎅🏻. You have down on their luck. That find Peace, Love, Forgiveness and faith in family and friends.
