Publisher's summary

As a second-generation Italian American, Margie grew up knowing her Sicilian grandparents and always felt a closeness to the Sicilian cultural traditions which were maintained by her family.

Not until Margie had grandchildren of her own, did she travel to Sicily for the first time. Here, she felt at home. She fell in love with the people and the culture of Sicily and sensed a real emotional connection.

She has returned to Sicily over and again and recounts her experiences in this true story, with passion and love for her ancestors' homeland. You will feel as if you are traveling alongside Margie as she travels to different places in Sicily, explores the village of her grandparents, and connects with new friends whom she believes to be family.

loved this story

I loved this story. My grandparents are all from Sicily. I long to see it in depth, as Margie has.

A Lovely Description of Sicily

Our host Miklas has Italian heritage and decides to travel to Sicily to trace her family history and ends up falling in love with the place. This book covers several of her visits to the island.

The island is very well described enticing the listener to go there sometime. Great descriptions of the turquoise sun baked sea, vineyards, sheep farms and in particular, Mount Etna which is the most active volcano in Europe.

There is huge emphasis on food, as you would expect in Italy, particularly seafood. Miklas even takes cooking lessons locally. There is also emphasis on all the history and also the Godfather film franchise, since many of the scenes were made in Sicily.

The narration changes speed quite a bit, presumably due to recording errors, but it's a great story and books like this should make you want to visit the place they are about, and this one did for me.

Finished it in one afternoon :)

Great audiobook! I will probably get a hardcover copy too.
The author did a great job at creating a unique travel-guide-memoir that is truly outside the box.
I am a passionate traveler myself and as such I don't really like cookie cutter travel guides.
This book is different. I learned a lot about Italy, especially its cultural differences (between South and North).
As I am writing this review, we still can't travel freely because of the corona virus precautions.
But I am hoping it will end soon as I really feel like exploring Syscily now!
I also really enjoyed the narration of this book. the author's voice was very calming:)
