About this listen

Now, after Mystic Warrior, comes Mystic Quest, Book Two of the Bronze Canticles, a trilogy of magic and heroism, mystery and splendor.

Twenty-three years have passed since Galen Arvad first exposed the deep magic. Now, that magic brings tragedy and darkness to the lives of all who wield it in the world. Galen and his clans suffer an endless war in the realm of the dragon kings, the fairies contend with a gruesome kingdom of the undead, and in the realm of the reanimated, rusting titans, a tyrant goblin's lust for conquest goes unchecked.

A new generation of heroes will set out on separate, life-altering journeys. Whether in search of freedom or atonement, each will find their redemption may be beyond the power of magic, for their darkest secrets and greatest dangers are those they bring with them.

Critic reviews

"An enthralling fantasy novel with plenty of action and fully-developed characters. Mystic Quest is fantasy at its very best." (Midwest Book Review)

Good Followup to the First

Have you listened to any of Lloyd James’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This performance is right on par with what I come to expect from James.

Any additional comments?

Everything happens so conveniently and buttons up so nicely. Take it for what it is.

Enjoyable

The book is enjoyable, although sometimes a little hard to follow since most chapters begin with a character talking/thinking to themself. It is several paragraphs later when you find out which character is talking/thinking. If you keep that in mind while reading/listing to the book you will find the book more enjoyable.

The ending of the book was fabulous. It caught me "totally" by surprise.

I will be listing to the next book in this series.

Worth a listen

I liked Vol 2 much better than Vol 1, probably because I understood the nature of the 3 parallel plots at this point. I found the story interesting and quite riveting at times although it does take a bit of time to get moving. The ending is very good - a satisfying finish which leaves you wanting to move on to Vol. 3.

The narration is absolutely fabulous - every character has an instantly recognizable voice and even their emotions come through. The narrator does an equally great job with both male & female voices. Thankfully the fey's accent has been toned down a bit - I found it rather annoying in the volume 1 since it was so over the top in places.

This is definitely worth checking out.

Excellent book from true storytellers

Truly one of the best tandem storytellers out there. I enjoyed the first book and devoured this one. The characters are rich and the setting is excellent. You can really let your mind fly and be right in the middle of it. The story line is fluid and always with a twist. I cant wait for the third; although I may have to buy the book for how long it took this audio version to make it here.
What was also good about the book is the ending. It ends clean, not like hitting a brick wall; but with you wanting to know more.
This is really a must have.

Why 23 years later?

No idea why the authors decided to put this book 23 years after the 1st one as every time a author does this it dilutes the story and shows that the authors had no idea how to continue afte the 1st one. Also, of the 3 storylines going I never cared about the main story with the humans (the book spends the most time with them), this probably has to do with it being the next generation, overall poor plotting and really didn't like either of the brothers(or the hokey set-up for why they get together).
