About this listen

This debut mystery from a fresh voice in Southwestern fiction stakes out the common ground between Tony Hillerman, Elmore Leonard, and Cormac McCarthy.

In a remote corner of the Chickasaw Nation, tribal Lighthorse policeman Bill Maytubby and county deputy Hannah Bond discover the buzzard-ravaged body of Majesty Tate, a young drifter with a blank past. They comb Oklahoma's rock prairie, river bottoms, and hard-bitten small towns for traces of her last days.

Tate was seen dancing with Austin Love, a violent local meth dealer fresh out of prison. An Oklahoma City motel clerk connects her with an aspiring politician. An oil-patch roustabout and a shady itinerant preacher provide dubious leads. Ne'er-do-wells start dying off.

A fluke lead propels Maytubby deep into Louisiana's bayou country, where a Cajun shrimper puts him on the scent of a bizarre conspiracy. He and Bond reunite in the Chickasaw Nation for the eventual face-off at Nail's Crossing.

long on detail

not a bad read I will read more of his books but I sure wouldn't compare them to Elmore Leonard

Love the characters and their voices and especially Hanna. Too bad we couldn’t actually meet them all.

I may not like the language but understand how it fits the character and mood of the moment.

Entertaining

The story was pretty good, but the narrator is too monotonal and sometimes makes it hard to follow. A few gaps in the story line left me with some questions.

Great characters

Really enjoyed the fast paced story and loved the different characters. I would love to see this author continue with a book series featuring these characters.

Nail's Crossing

This is a very good Mystery Western book. Bill Maytubby and Hannah Bond teams up together. They cover a lot of territory. This book holds your interest from the beginning to the end. This is the first book in the series. I highly recommend this if you like mysteries or westerns. Mark Bramhall does an excellent job narrating this book. if my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.

Good listen

It was a good story…but…I’m not sure if I downloaded the abridged or non abridged version. There were times when I thought I missed whole paragraphs and was left kinda thinking, “huh? What just happened?” Not sure what the writer was thinking or forgot to tie a thought together, other than that, it was a great story and quite interesting. Will definitely listen to the next in series.

Almost a great book. Really nice listen. Easy to follow. Likeable and hate-able characters.
