About this listen

A shocking portrait of the 1980s, of America, and of the woman whose position helped shape the values and policies of the Reagan administration. Through over 1,000 interviews collected during four years of exhaustive research and reporting, Kelley reveals Nancy Reagan as a superb public performer; a vain, materialistic social climber; a bitter foe; and formidable strategist - an American phenomenon.

Disappointing

While I don't think Mrs. Reagan was an angel, she took care of her husband. What stood out the most and really towards the end - was how jealous the writer sounded and I can't quite put my finger on why. I'm not saying Mrs. Reagan was innocent of the allegations laid at her feet - I almost think that the writer was trying to shock - to be honest as the story went on - it made the writer seem more and more envious.

Catty and Revealing

It's gossipy and not particularly well-balanced, but enough people were willing to go on record to lend the author some credence. I wouldn't take it as gospel, but it is an interesting look at the woman behind the president.

What you imagined only here in print

Enjoyed every second every word. I never realized everything I heard was so true and so much greed

Nancy Reagan was a piece of work. 🤮🤢

Enjoyed listening. I have NO respect for a woman who was so mean & nasty to her own, & to her step children.

interesting but a little petty

The content was interesting and the narrator did a great job however, parts of it seemed a little petty and unnecessarily mean. overall it was well written and I would recommend it

Vengeful

I wanted a book to read instead of reading about someone who has been scorned.

Tabloid quality of no historical value.

The author managed to make the most normal behaviors become seething with evil when done by Nancy Reagan. Much more telling about the author than about the subject matter. I will not complete the book as life is too short for such garbage.

Hateful o

This was a difficult book to get thru because of the venom spewed by the author and the narrator... Miss Kelly wrote about the Reagan’s cashing in after they left the Whitehouse. I am wondering when Miss Kelley is going to write an unauthorized biography about the Obamas and the Clintons cashing in after they left the White House. Doubtful....
