About this listen
Every light casts a shadow. Ronan Renzo is that shadow.
Ronan Renzo lives a somewhat pampered life as the son of a merchant, but all that changes when his family home is visited by a strange, black-clad man. This man's clothing is so dark that it seems to swallow light, and he bears the symbol of the crescent moon upon his breast.
He is, according to Ronan, a member of the Night Guild. A guild of thieves and assassins, who commit dark deeds in homage to the one they serve: the Night God.
After a terrible tragedy in his family home, Ronan is asked by the master of the Night Guild himself for any request and it will be granted.
Ronan chooses to join the Night Guild, the one thing that might allow him to avenge the tragedy.
But the Night Guild is not what it appears to be. Indeed, everything carries a darker undertone in the Twelve Isles. Yet this may not prove to be Ronan's undoing, for the darkness and shadows have become a friend to Ronan, and it's from these that the Night God whispers...

You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

Not what you think
You would think by the description, it would be more dark-grim right, nope this story is more for teens/young adult genre. All the MC does is train to become an assassin then the Nancy Drew stuff starts and he turns into an hero. Why make it about an assassin guild if the Mc is a hero?
