The story was composed with many fine details that gave the reader insights into 1930s Key West, even if many functioned only as red herrings. The best attribute of this book, though, was the wonderful narrator, who gave the different characters unique voices and personalities.

I love when a book takes you back. This book is not only set in the late 20's, but you feel the events as the scenes unfold. It certainly helps that Simon Wolfe, the main character, meets and hangs with Ernest Hemmingway!

Wolfe is on the trail of a wayward wife. Along the way, he meets Hemmingway, a murdered body, and a big fish. After all is said and done. the ending had a nice little twist on the whodunnit.

I liked the narration as well. Jordan performed a great variety of voices and is the main reason this book felt so real.

I love mysteries, and this one kept me guessing all the way to the end. Although fiction, this book is based on real events which made it that much more fascinating to me. The narrator was great, and brought the story to "life". This is a quick read and definitely worth a credit!!

Private Investigator Simon Wolfe is just starting as a P.I. He’s a serious wannabe novelist that has to earn a living somehow. The time is four years after prohibition ends. The place is Key West of course.

Night at Key West is a Film Noir that hasn’t made it to the big screen yet. I can not think of another way to describe the atmosphere of Night at Key West. That’s how I felt as I read and listened to it.

Night at Key West, A Simon Wolfe mystery is also true. I love true crime. Simon is hired to find out what a friends wife is up to. In the process, he becomes friends with Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway is quite a character which comes through clearly in this book/audible.

I enjoyed the audible more. That’s where the Film Noir feel shines. It’s a 5-star book too, but the audible was terrific. This book and audible is a refreshing experience for me. Completely different. You must pay attention because the story has so many twists to it. At the same time, it’s so much fun taking a step back in time.

A Night In Key West is based on actual events and told from the view of Simon Wolfe, a writer want a be/private investigator. He meets Ernest Hemmingway and his life is changed. I loved the way the story moved smoothly from person to person connecting the lives. Except for the writings of Ernest Hemmingway, I am not familiar with his personality, but this story brings some of that to the front. I don't know that I would have liked him, to be honest.
I listened to the audiobook version of this story and Tom Jordan knocks it out of the park. His characters and story telling is always on point and I know I will always be entertained.

Good book that follows PI Simon Wolfe, as he tries to find who murdered his friend's wife, who he was following. The side story with Ernest Hemingway, is also interesting, as Wolfe follows his passion for writing.

Well read by Tom Jordan, who brings the characters to life and sets the right mood.

Murder Mystery in Key West

Night at Key West (A Simon Wolfe Mystery, Book 1) by Craig A. Hart overall was a good book and I do recommend, especially if you’re looking for something shorter, love Key West, or a bit of true stories woven into books. It took me a couple chapters to get into the book, but once I did, I enjoyed it.

What to expect: Simon Wolfe, a private investigator, in the Key West area is investigating a murder and living life as an inspiring writer. You’ll find the story twists in and out of the murder case and the various characters involved- at the end in the author’s note you hear about the different characters/elements of the story being based off real history, which makes you appreciate the story and research put into the story even more.

Narrator: Tom Jordan did a fabulous job! He was easy to listen to. Would and will check out other works by him.

I wish there would have been a little more backstory on certain characters and the murderer coming about happened rather quick vs. a build up. Prior to this book, I was not familiar with the author or narrator, but would have no problem checking out another book by both.

Parental guidance/Trigger warnings: swearing (god, god damn, I believe there were a couple more but managed to lose my notes when out of town so I apologize for this- when I re-listen, I will update my review to reflect), murder, drinking at bar, fight where a guy is punched, adultery, marriage problems, STD’s. Adult situations are prominent throughout the book.

Simon Wolfe wants to be an aspiring author but he has to make a living somehow so he opens up shop as a PI. Its a step back in time to a period without smart phones, not even television; its 4 years after the end of prohibition, and Simon's first case is following his friend Mike's wife around to get proof that she is cheating on him. Incredibly, he follows her right onto the property of Ernest Hemingway, and after the initial confrontation Hemingway takes a shine to him and invites him in for a drink. The case takes a sudden and serious twist when the wife is found murdered in a hotel room, and Mike becomes the prime suspect, and then another twist when the body disappears from the morgue. Hemingway commandeers Simon on an extended fishing escapade on his yacht when Simon has promised to help clear Mikes name and at the same time, unbeknownst to Mike, also help the prosecutor with his case. The story is based on true events and is woven with historical fact and I found it very refreshing and found myself googling the facts in between readings. I look forward to the Simon Wolfe book 2. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
