About this listen

This sci-fi /zombie/comedy/adventure follows a group of rag-tag Trekkies getting together for the fifth annual FedCon (billed as the "largest Starfleet Convention in the western Gulf Coast region").

Our heroes are dressed in homemade uniforms and armed with prop phasers but soon find themselves defending their hotel and convention center against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Suddenly, all of their useless knowledge about particle physics and old Star Trek episodes has genuine real-world applications! And while hotel employees and regular civilians are dying left and right, our Trekkies summon strength and courage by emulating their favorite starship-voyaging characters.

Packed with hundreds of gags referencing Star Trek, comic books, and fan conventions, Night of the Living Trekkies reads like the strange lovechild of Galaxy Quest and Dawn of the Dead. Journey to the final frontier of zombie science-fiction mash-ups!

This is an original work of parody and is not officially sponsored by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the owners of the Star Trek brand.

Surprisingly good

I an not a fan of zombie fiction, but I actually liked this one. Never thought you combine the genres, but it's well done.

Awfully familiar

This was a fun book...but I had just finished listening to "Infected" and I thought, "wow, besides the Star Trek stuff, this sounds awfully familar." I guess authors are probably inspired by books they've read themselves, but it was kind of annoying.

A Fun Take on a Dramatic Genre

Night of the Living Trekkies is really enjoyable book with some slight issues. The narrator doesn’t really capture all emotions well. There were times where I was expecting a lot of pain and sadness to come through, and the delivery was more straight or casual than it should have been. People are dying, and it seems like another Wednesday for these individuals. Someone kills another person for the first time in their lives — on to another kill. It’s strange.

The writing itself is also a little strange, but it all ties back to those emotions. It doesn’t feel like the characters are really going through much stress. However, there are times when the stress comes though. This book bounces back and forth between Zombieland and The Walking Dead, and it can confuse the reader.

However, I will say that I was very happy to purchase and own this. While the narrator didn’t catch a lot the emotions, I love the different voices he did for all the characters. When he did emotions, I was very happy with them.

Also, that back and forth of the genres made for a somewhat refreshing take, which led to this book being different than a lot of other zombie stories I’ve read. It’s serious but also light hearted. It’s cool but also nerdy. It’s unique, and I think that’s why it’s going into my favorites list. It’s so different and refreshing, and never terrible in any area, that I’ll want to hear it again.
I’d pay a full credit for this book. It’s staying in my library.

Geek Heaven

You have it all in this one. Couldn't have been better. It seemed a little slow at first but once it got going I was happy. The reader did an excellent job and the production was top notch. Hope they do some more like this in the future. As you would expect with a title like this it is funny and if you are a Star trek fan you'll like all the references. Zombies at a Star trek convention you gotta love that!

Super cool!

I LOVED this book! It combines zombies with Star Trek. What could be better? It was fast-paced and funny. There was science fiction. Totally awesome! Highly recommended!

never judge book by its cover

I got the wrong idea of the quality by the cover of the book! I came across dale and earl stories on a podcast loved them and looked up the author and found this gem. literally amazing storie holds you from beginning to end and im not a star treck or star wars fan at all. worth the read completely and if you haven't heard of Dale and earl ( sadly the book isn't on audible get your crap together guys) then you better read there book by same author!

Highly Enjoyable

Truth be told, most zombie fiction is pretty bad. Whether it be the poor writing or bland characters put into cliche scenarios, I tend to put down most of these books rather than finish them. Thankfully, this book avoids a lot of the pitfalls and tells a funny albeit dramatic story about Star Trek fans trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. It's a fun read for sure, and if you're a Trekkie, you'll love all the Star Trek references scattered throughout the pages. Each chapter is named after an episode which works most of the time.

The wonderful thing about this book is that keeps its eyes always focused on the story. The characters feel real and their encounters can be gripping and sometimes tragic. The concept, while funny, is kept in check by the author's attention to plot and character.

Honestly, this could have been a disaster with lesser skilled writers, but instead, it was a refreshing read that I highly recommend.

Good.

Really really appreciate the effort put into both the story and the performance. Zach McLarty really made it all come alive. Sam Stall and KDAnderson gave a refreshing take on the Zombie genre.

This was a fun story

Having grown up with Star Trek and a love of zombies, this story was a good listen to me. There was a lot of humor and action and a lot of"trekkie" trivia.
